Excellent television quality at a good price
By J. Springfield
PROS:-- TV Picture is great: even non-HD channels seem sharper-- Reception is great, compared to my previous HD TV-- Speaker sound is nothing special, but when listening via headphones, or when connecting headphone output to Hi Fi, the quality is outstanding (good bass, etc)-- Menu items are easy to use-- Price was excellent-- easy to use remote: contains "Mute" button and "Info" button (program guide listing current on-air program only).CONS:-- Better explanation is needed on setting up the base stand (see below)The Speaker is only so-so, but that's because of the small internal speakers: the audio which feeds those speakers is very high quality, as is evident by using earphones. So if you want, use an adapter to connect the headphone output to a hi-fi (I've never heard great sound from small TV speakers).Be sure to use the Menu to utilize the "Skip Channel" option so that when you press channel "5" it doesn't tune in the analogue "5" (when you really wanted "5-1") -- and so you can eliminate any channels you don't want to be scrolling through each time you channel surf. The LCD image is beautiful and fully adjustable in the Menu (contrast, etc). The reception was much better than my previous HD TV: all local channels were received without fade outs or artifacts. I never realized 720p resolution could look so good.USE AS VGA MONITOR: Works very nicely on (eg) a Windows 7 computer. You may need to bend the cable coming out of the VGA plug so it doesn't get in the way as you squeeze the plug into position, when plugging it into the monitor (and don't forget to choose this new "Source" of signal, using the remote).ASSEMBLY REQUIRED: The very first thing you do when you pull it out of the box is the toughest; not every customer who purchases a tv set would be expected to handle the following very naturally: The instructions direct you to screw on the PLASTIC BRACKET (they call it the "STAND SUPPORT" onto the bottom of the tv set, as shown in the provided diagram: it's pretty easy to figure how it fits from the diagram: all you will need is a phillips screwdriver (not supplied).NOW THE HARD PART: you are next instructed to attach the plastic "BASE STAND" to the bracket you just attached: here the diagram is nearly useless, and so here is where your previous experience and talent at basic assembly will come in handy. Here's the way I did it, but you should examine your own "kit" to be sure this will work for you. Turn the TV upside down (screen facing toward your body) and rest it on your carpet or on your lap; now, position the "BASE STAND" onto the "STAND SUPPORT" bracket (which you just attached) such that the white arrow (which will be on the shiny, smooth side) points toward you (ie, to the front or viewing area of the tv). But you will find it doesn't fit down all the way in; so now ROTATE it CLOCKWISE about 45 degrees until it sinks completely into the hole (its arrow will be pointing to your left, a little. NOW, rotate it COUNTER CLOCKWISE with some force until it goes "click", and the arrow is pointing directly at you. I didn't bother with screwing the "5PCS of 3X10 screws", finding this quite difficult and probably (fingers crossed) not needed.I'm very pleased after one day with this TV/Monitor. I'm hoping this works on my cell phone, via its HDMI output.
