5Incredible TV! Gaming is perfectly FINE!
By G. Dilyard
I'm gonna break this review up into 2 parts. 1st part is about input lag, second is about the 3D and the TV itself.Part I.First off, I have had this TV for 2 days. Right after I ordered it, I started reading about input lag and other things. I'll be honest, It got me worried. I'm a regular gamer, and that's really what I got the TV for. So when it first arrived, I set it up and popped in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3.. Without changing any settings. I noticed that there was some input lag, and it was a tad annoying..BUT it was PLAYABLE in my opinion. Then I turned off Tru Motion by changing the picture setting to "Game". I really didn't notice much of a difference. It improved by, 20% maybe? This was when I was starting to get worried.. I did a little research and found a sneaky trick/fix. So far, it's worked great. (Knock on wood, I'm truly loving my TV to the fullest now!) Below are step by step instructions.1. On your remote, press the input button.2. Then push the blue button on the bottom right hand corner of the remote. It says 3D settings but that's irrelevant right now.3. This will open a window to change the name of the input.4. Choose the PC name. When you change the name of the input to PC, it turns off almost all of the image processing that comes with the HDMI input. So far, It has worked GREAT!Part II.Setup was relatively painless. I haven't setup the 3D Bluray player yet, I'll update when I do. My first 3D experience was with Halo CE Anniversary. I must say... INCREDIBLE! I wasn't ready for things to really come out of the screen. I guess my expectations were a little low. But hey! It turned out to be a good thing! The 2D to 3D is pretty sweet. I have found that it doesn't work great with everything. Sports, sitcoms and movies are pretty cool when up-converted. But talk shows and news isn't anything special. Of course, the LED and Tru Motion make everything silky smooth. Makes everything look almost fake, I personally like this. When I opened the packs of 3D glasses, I was surprised, they weren't black, but white and orange! I kinda thought this was cool, you could call it a pleasant surprise.I'll be updating this review as I use the TV more over the weekend. Really get into the nitty gritty of the settings. Please rate this review as helpful!**UPDATE**I just would like to say that I'm incredibly happy to have helped many of you with this problem! I know it can be a real hassle of shipping and returning such a large item. So far, I still have had ZERO problems with lag, and it's been a real treat. The 3D image quality still ceases to amaze me, especially with the price point of this TV. GREAT VALUE!The geek inside of me is a little ashamed, I still haven't fired up the 3D Bluray player yet, but I guess that gives me another reason to update this review again. I hope all of you are enjoying your TV's, and if you haven't jumped to ship to purchase one, may I firmly suggest to do so now. You won't regret it.

5Great 3d tv
By crow11ad
Ok we have had this tv for about 3 weeks and love it. It's 55" of 3d greatness. Now you may see 3d tvs from Sony or Panasonic that once you put those heavier glasses on, you might see some flickering. Those tvs are.called active 3d and this LG uses passive 3d. Basically the screen is coated and the glasses do the rest. Now passive 3d is the same 3d you may see at the movies, so the glasses from the movies will work on this tv. Keep in mind with the active shutter glasses coat $50 -$100 +, you get 4 free included and you go to the movies and bring those home and thats more for everyone. If you wear glasses, these will fit over your glasses or read my review of the clip ons. This set comes with a 3d blu ray player which rocks. Neither the tv or 3d blu ray is networked to get on the internet, except the blu ray for bd live and updates. This is fine and helps keeps the cost down. Now you can watch regular tv, dvds and blu rays in 3d with the help of on the fly 2d to 3d conversion which rocks not only for regular viewing, but for games as well. Playing Call of Duty on the 360 or Uncharted on the,ps3 is awesome once you hit the 3d button. Last night I tried God of War Origins collections that is a 3d enabled game and all I can say is wow. Also 3d blu ray movies are amazing. If you get this set or any 3d tv, I would recommend Imax Under the Sea. Keep in mind the ps3 also does 3d.

5Love this TV
By Bryan J. Bowen
I purchased this TV about 3 weeks ago for a really awesome deal. It had all of the features I was looking for. It is extremely easy to use and change the settings. Which I high recommend you do. The trumotion feature to me makes everything look a bit sped up which some refer to as soap opera effect. It can easily be turned of via the menus. The picture is crystal clear the sound is whats to be expected from a flat panel set. Watchable but nothing amazing. Now I had ZERO intention to buy a 3D set. Mostly because I wasn't that interested in most things in 3D. This one uses passive 3d, meaning you do not need expensive glasses to use it. The ones from the theatre will work just fine.My set did come with 4 pairs anyway. and you an get them on amazon for very inexpensive anyway. The actual 3d effects are astounding, and the tv will convert any 2d into 3d, this however leave some to be desired if you are used to things shot in 3D. But still a nice feature. Overall the only feature I could say would be nice for some is a the apps some smart tv's have. I could care less since I have access to nearly all of those between my PS3 or XBOX360.

4After Firmware Upgrade - A Fine Small LCD TV for the Price
By JB
After my previous 13 inch Sharp LCD TV died recently, I was in the market for a new small LCD TV for the kitchen. After shopping around I purchased the Philips 19PFL3504D/F7 19 inch LCD HDTV from a B&M Target store; this is the same TV available here either from Amazon itself or sold through Amazon by target.com/ITC. IMHO this set competes with other 19 inch sets such as the Toshiba 19AV600U 19-Inch 720p Portable LCD HDTV, Black and Samsung LN19B360 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black, which cost $45 to $80 more than the price I paid for the Philips. (Due to reliability / customer service concerns I did not consider any of the numerous no-name or store brand TVs available.)First things first, at present the Philips requires a firmware upgrade (available at the Philips website) to eliminate an annoying high-pitched hum that occurs when the TV is powered off. If you have a computer and a USB flash drive this is an easy fix. Hopefully this will not be required on future shipment of the TV.Setup of the Philips was very straightforward, and includes a guided setup which displays several test images and has the user select their brightness / sharpness / color preferences. This appears to be a faster way to get a decent picture than having to manually guess what backlight / sharpness / brightness / color / tint settings are needed. Of course these manual adjustments are available if needed. After 20 minutes to initially scan analog / digital channels, the TV was ready to go. The QAM tuner was able to pick up all of the digital cable channels (SD and HD) present; due to the distance from broadcast towers I could not check OTA performance. Unwanted channels can be "skipped" via the Setup menu. The HD picture was excellent, with a bright picture, saturated colors, and good contrast. The SD picture was obviously a step down, but analog and digital SD channels were reasonably good. There are several options to present SD content stretched to fill the screen, but I preferred to stay in Normal mode and leave black bars on the side for SD content. The sound of the unit is fine, even though I was surprised to see that the speakers are located on the bottom of the TV (the pictures on Amazon make it look like these are front facing speakers). I had no issue getting adequate volume out of the speakers, and the sound quality is good considering the small size of this TV.The Philips tilts forward a bit and tilts backwards a bit more, which is useful if viewing the TV from above or slightly below. The horizontal viewing angles are very good, no real degradation of the image when standing to the left or right of the TV. Viewing from above is OK up to about 45 degrees. Viewing from way below can become a problem, so if mounting this TV high up (say on a wall mount) make sure you can tilt it down towards the viewer. (Note: most TVs I looked at locally exhibit the same issue when viewing from below - some at a much smaller angle than the Philips.)The Philips includes 2 HDMI inputs, component input, S-video / composite input, and VGA input. There is both a digital audio jack (coax) and headphone jack. Other standard features include sleep timer, parental controls, and sound equalizer. The two features I wish this TV had was a channel label feature (particularly useful to label the myriad digital channels this TV now picks up) and some type of Favorites feature to quickly tune to certain channels; the Toshiba mentioned above has these features at a higher price. I also have some concern over the long term reliability of this TV, as older 19 inch Philips models have some reliability complaints on here. I'll update this review if needed (hopefully not).In summary, after using this set for a while I would say that this is a fine TV for the price, particularly if you are able to get the unit on sale. It is missing a few features from higher priced Toshiba and Samsung offerings, but has fine picture and sound at a price competitive with the no-name brands.

2Great TV, but i'll never buy another Philips product.
By M. Coffer
I'll keep this short and sweet. This TV is really great. It's worth every penny. If it works. After having mine for about 8 months, I started having issues very suddenly. There was no power surge, no thunder storm, no dropping it or kicking it or anything of the sort. It just started not turning on. I called tech support and they told me how to fix it: hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Worked great...the first time. After that, I spent 20 minutes figuring out that I had to unplug the power cord for at least 20 seconds and then plug it back in before it would turn on again. I called Philips tech support again, and they told me they would send me a "new or refurbished" replacement. 8 days later, I received it, and opened it to find a horribly beat up, scratched and wobbly replacement. I immediately called Philips again and told them that it was absurd for them to send me a beat up replacement for my nearly-mint-condition TV (aside from THEIR manufacturing error with the power supply). I was told I would have to just live with it because Philips considered "cosmetic issues" unworthy of consideration, begging environmental conservation as their excuse. Why they can't just sell these crappy refurbished models to knowing consumers is beyond me.Long story short, after 8 months of treating my property with care and consideration, Philips gave me the shaft and despite the issue being their own fault as a manufacturer, repaid my patronage with a shrug of apathy.

1cheap, but to cheap
By Ryan J. Schaefer
Being a college student I am always searching for great deals on electronics, recently I have been looking for a small TV for my bedroom and I came across this philips 19' refurb for $134. I was a bit skeptical and read the reviews, most reviews were negative especially on the refurbished models. I went and purchased the TV anyway since I have had success with refurbished electronics in the past. Well this was my first bad experience, the reviews were true to their word. The power for the TV stopped working and i was no longer able to turn the TV on or off with the remote and this was the third day i had it, the only way i could get it to come on was to unplug the TV from the wall for a while. I called philips and they offered me the same model refurbished i said no thanks, I returned it and purchased a samsung 19' for $170, this TV had the best ratings and the fewest problems it is a little more expensive and the TV must be sitting at eye level to see the best picture, but i would rather have a TV with a little bit of an obscure viewing angle then a TV that doesn't turn on.

RECEIVED MY 60" VIZIOMAX SCREEN PROTECTOR. It is like a "MIRROR". TOO MUCH GLARE. I CAN ONLY WATCH T.V. AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY BECAUSE OF THE GLARE. I'M not returning it because of my 3 yr old throwing things. I have invited people over to see it, they agree. This glare problem MUST be improved!!!! I think I deserve at least 1/2 my money returned.

5Great price verses quality
By Stan
I actually bought this TV at Sam's club where the going price for it was $598. It was a real bargain at that price too. The other TV I was considering was an LED version that is also 42''. I just could not justify paying an extra $250 for the LED version when this is the same thing with only the regular backlighting, which is actually guaranteed to last longer.I'm not actually using this for a TV, rather, it's being used for a computer monitor. At first it was a little hard to configure but you have to make sure that your resolution is in one of the VESA formats like 1920 x 1080, 1360 x 768, 1024 x 768. You also need to make sure the picture mode is set to "game" so there is no hesitation between what has been done with the mouse and what happens on the screen. The game mode fixes any hesitation.I looked on Newegg dot com for large format monitors at 42'' and they were all well over $1000. There really is no reason to buy one of them when you could just get one of these for so little, and have it do the same thing.Another positive is that the picture is very sharp, brilliant, with plenty of contrast.

5Overall a very good tv
By Dan
I purchased this tv in early December of 2010 and have been very pleased with it, with an exception or two. When watching the tv, the volume would periodically get louder. I soon discovered that the tru-volume feature caused this. After turning that feature off, it works like a charm. The picture is very clear and crisp regardless of what I watch on it (sports, sitcoms, etc.)but getting 240hz would have been nice. This tv was definitely better than what i had expected for the price. I will definitely look at Vizio for any future tv's that I may buy.

4Good Value for the Price
By Jeff V
Picked this up at Sam's Club on Black Friday for $528. Not talking about a door buster either as I strolled in at 2PM when the rush was long gone. Fantastic picture and the 120hz keeps all the action of football and movies very smooth. So far so good after a few weeks in regards to problems. Very easy to get out of the box and set up. Oddities so far: commercial volumes are louder than programs...slight annoyance but have noticed that on other HD signals / TVs. Actual sound quality is very good.Voice / sound and image can be slightly off. So you'll hear speech but notice the speaker's mouth isn't quite in sync. Have seen this via non HD cable and on a DVD played on an upconvert DVD player via the HDMI input. Weird...Remote inputs have a slight delay before the channel changes or something happens.Small annoyances at worst so far. But again, for $530 bucks, pretty tough to beat!

5OH MY GOD AMAZING TELEVISION
By M. Moskowitz
This television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside.I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV.The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound. This is an amazing TV.UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say it still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when it comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid it off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung.

5Beautiful Picture - Great Service
By Rob. B
One of my biggest purchases with Amazon and it went as smooth as possible. The picture on this TV is amazing. FiOS HD can be almost too much pretty on one screen with this TV, it's a bit overwhelming at first. Standard def channels are of course a less clear but better than expected. The only issue I have with this TV is the length of time to power on and off. You also have to point the remote just right sometimes or the function won't register. Small issue though, hardly worth docking points off this unit. The menu is wonderful and gives complete control over settings. Each input saves your settings too! The AVS Forums have a great thread concerning settings for each input that should be checked out and tested. A little tweaking got the black levels and skin tone just right.I haven't tested the VGA input, but my Macbook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI cable is amazing! My FiOS is connected via HDMI and as I mentioned, quite beautiful. I also have a Wii hooked up via component. The Wii maxes out at 480p but really shines on this TV despite the 1080p native res. Don't be fooled though, the picture is a little fuzzy but through some tweaking you can get a great picture without springing for a separate upconverter.Shipping was of course through Eagle/CEVA. Make sure to call and verify they've got your info. They didn't have my phone number on record at first so I corrected that. My delivery man was Rick. He was great! He called to setup the appointment, was on time, very delicate with the unit, and very personable. I couldn't be more pleased.UPDATE: Just wanted to mention the finish of the screen. Originally, I was debating between this model and the older lnt4069fx due to the matte screen. I chose this model for several reasons. First, it was cheaper. Second, I decided 120Hz wasn't worth the extra 400 bucks. Third, the screen isn't glossy but it isn't matte it's more of an in-between, satin-like finish that works great in my TV watching room that has a glass front door to the outside and 2 windows. Glare isn't a problem at all for me even with lamps behind me. It really is great. The ultra gloss on the 600 and 700 models are way to much for my multipurpose room. Hope that helps anyone on the fence that cares about gloss vs. matte finishes.

2Caution: Known HDMI issue
By J. R. Wechezak
I purchased the Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV on July 14, 2008. It's my 4th big screen HDTV purchase but my first 1080p box. Agree with other reviews in that it has an absolute beautiful picture at a very good price. There are many features I love about this TV, but here's the problem....I purchased a Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player with an HDMI (version 1.3) cable. When i watch a DVD, i get a 'searching for signal' message that appears on the screen for about 5 seconds. This happens once every minute or two! I went into full troubleshooting mode by replacing the cable, the DVD player, and everything else i could think of. I tried the DVD player and HDMI cable with my other HDTV sets and it worked great. After calling Samsung technical support and getting to their level 2 support in New Jersey, they acknowledged there is a problem with the HDMI connection with the TV but they do not have a firmware fix for it yet. They suggested i wait for the firmware fix (release date unknown), or return the TV and try another one. I opted to exchange the TV for the same model. I received it today and (unfortunately) it has the same problem. I will now return the TV to Amazon, get a refund, and purchase a different model.Bottom line, if you don't use or need the HDMI connection, you should be fine with this set. However, if you plan to use HDMI I'd look to a different model until this is fixed.Update on July 28 - After further troubleshooting, the HDMI problem is with the combination of using a Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV with the Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player. Together, they do not work. Separately, the upconverting DVD player works perfectly with other TVs, and the Samsung LN40A550 works fine with another upconverting DVD. I purchased the same brand so i would eliminate this exact problem! Who would think that Samsung has not tested their own product compatibility before they go out the door? Exremely poor quality control - my guess is they have a problem with their 'anynet' software feature, but it still blanks-out with 'anynet' turned off. Purchase the Sony upconverting DVD player with this TV and you'll be OK. However, now I personally don't trust Samsung.

4Not bad, crap sound though
By N. H Kan
At first, i pretty much used this in a small corner to play Modern Warfare 2. The picture is pretty darn good and i had no problems spotting people from far off if i sat close to the screen (3 ft. from my face). I think i tweeked a few settings to get it to look the way I wanted, but once i did, it was awesome. The only thing i don't like about this tv that really got on my nerves are the speakers. They are absolute crap. From what i hear, this is a common trait in Dynex tvs. It's like having an old radio playing in the bathroom while your ears are submerged in water, muffled and echo-y. Since i was always playing so close to the thing anyway, i went and bought a pair of headphones and an extension cable for it and plugged it into the jack in the tv and the sound was pretty good then. Wearing the XBox headset while gaming was interesting though. I think if you can buy a cheap pair of powered speakers that have a standard headphone jack, it should solve the problem too.About 6 months ago, i started using this as my computer monitor. It's native resolution is 1360x768 (which means that 720 picture is actually upscaled to that, but it does a good job of it), and if you use it as a computer monitor, it has to run at that resolution or everything looks like soup. If you do have it set to that resolution, everything looks awesome. Unfortunately for me that is kind of a low resolution (old monitor was 1280x1024), but i can't afford a monitor that would utilize my computer's max potential. My computer is on 24/7, and i have this set to go to screen saver after 10 minutes and turn off the monitor after 10 minute after that. I have had no problems with the tv acting up or anything, though it takes a few seconds to turn on, which is kind of annoying coming back after it's been powered off and you want to get on and check the weather real quick before stepping out. So it's not the best computer monitor choice.Overall, it's a reliable tv with good picture and crap speakers, but using external speakers fix that for the most part. It makes an ok computer monitor and it has lasted me over a year with no problems. Between the price and picture quality, i'd have given it a 5 star rating if the speakers weren't absolute crap.

4Wall Mount
By Dblain
I'd like to know if there is a specific wall mount needed for this television?Or is it just a size fit that is important as far as mounting.:)I've never mounted a television before. In all seriousness, this is a question more than a review.Although I obviously own the television or I'd not want to mount it. Mine has worked well long over its warranty, my only complaint is that the internal speakers don't have enough oomph all on their own.

5AWESOME LITTLE TV...
By Rikjay
This little TV is great for a kitchen or as a small tv for a guest room or childs room. The remote is simple and concise. Setup is a breeze. Wall mounts easily. The picture is excellent. The viewing angle is excellent. I researched alot of 19" LCD TV's and decided on this one. Many other 19" tv's have a poor viewing angle...this one does not. The picture is clear. You will not go wrong with this TV. I have mine connected to a small radio shack Hi-DEF off-air antenna for the kitchen. I was amazed that I gets over 20 HD channels on it. The antenna is small and mounted outside. I would really compare this TV to Sony, Samsung. Its just as good. Not to mention the price..wow..it was about the same price as the bargain, off-brand TV"s. You wont go wrong with this little beauty! Youll see every pimple on American Idol! Whew hooh!!!!

3OK...But Has It's Issues
By Stanley M.
After having owned this TV for over a month I decided that an honest review was in order,First the Positives: This is an inexpensive LCD TV by a name manufacturer. It is lightweight, portable, attractive and easy to hook up. It has a wonderful picture provided that you are watching well lit indoor scenes or outdoor sporting events. The remote control has all of the functions necessary to set up picture and sound preferences and is much easier than using the small buttons located on the right side panel of the TV.Now for the Negatives: Most of the negatives can be overlooked as being relatively minor. Many have complained about the sound on this TV. It is not very good. It is rather tinny but keep in mind this is a small TV with not much space to put larger, better sounding speakers. You can adjust the bass and treble through the audio settings on the menu. This does help some. The solution to this problem is to just add external speakers through the audio out jack on the back of the TV or through audio output jacks on a cable box if you have one.LCD TV's unlike old picture tube tvs have to be viewed from certain angles to give you the true benefit of the picture. If the viewer is much higher then the height of the TV the picture will look very bright and washed out. If the viewer is below the height of the TV the picture can look very dark. A "tiltable" base would have helped to remedy this issue. This again can be remedied by buying a wall mount. The major complaint I have with this TV is the very poor contrast ratio that it has in dark indoor scenes as well as outdoor night scenes. Programs such as "CSI" which feature a lot of dimly lit indoor scenes are brutally dark. Blacks and Reds look inky with low contrast.I spent a lot of time calibrating and recalibrating the picture options. I read up a lot on how to do this and although I finally improved somewhat on the picture it still is darker then what it should be.Another important issue which I don't think anyone has mentioned. This is an energy saving unit...and although that is good for your electric bill it is not so great for your picture. Most LCD TVS have something known as either "AUTO DIM" or "DCR (dynamic contrast ratio)". What that does is automatically dim and brighten your backlighting as the LCD deems necessary. This annoying dimming and brightening is most active during well lit sporting events (such as a baseball game). Larger more expensive sets have a menu option to disable this. You cannot disable it on this set.If I had too do it over again I would not buy this set. On the other hand I am not that unhappy where I would return it. For it's price it is OK.For those interested the following are what I found to be the best calibrations for this TV (in TV viewing mode). Please note you MUST set individual calibration settings for EACH input (dvd, pc, etc.)Brightness: 40Contrast:30-35Sharpness: 30Tint: 5Color:13-15 (personal preference..but anything higher seems "cartoonish"Temperature: Cool (personal preference)Backlight: 8 (the higher the backlight the more contrast you lose)***DNR (digital noise reduction): OFF...The factory default is "ON". Having the setting "ON" will remove fine detail from your picture.I hope this helps someone.

5Great 19" TV
By Megan Scarlett
I bought this 19" TV to replace an older CRTV I had in my guest bedroom and so far I have been very happy with my purchase. The remote is pretty simple/basic but it gets the job done. The sound and picture quality are good and I like the overall appearance of the TV. I would recommend this TV to others. So, if you are looking for a good deal on a small LCD TV then I would recommend you look at buying this TV.
