4Sharp tv
By John Desilets
So far I am pleased with this tv, after owning it for a month. For the money it was a good buy. Picture quality is very good, and the size of the tv fits nicely my needs. The only criticism is with the sound output. Sometimes you have to turn the volume up toward the maximum to hear clearly, but with the headphones this is not a big problem. Easy to use and understand the manual.

4Low price leader
By Recursive
At least for now this TV seems like the low price leader among new 2009 52" sets. I am very happy with my purchase after 2 weeks of ownership. I am watching it without any custom tweaking at all and blu-ray looks great, and ATSC digital broadcast reception via a RCA ANT1500 Large Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Antenna (White) is excellent too.I bought this sight unseen because the price was right and it seemed to have the important stuff and not the frills, which was just what I wanted. Also previous models of the Aquos line got decent reviews. This is my first large LCD so I don't have much to compare with. The features seem to be just a somewhat more mature version of last years features which is great if you don't want the dubious advantages (and expense) of things like 240hz mode, LED backlighting or ultra-thin screen. The built-in sound is decent with hidden, downward pointing speakers and I use it for live TV (ie News and Sports) but for movies I have it connected to an AV surround amp.Looks great mounted on the wall (nicer than on the stand).Pros: - 10-bit screen - non-glare screen I have it next to large window and although you can certainly see the light reflected, it is a kind of matte look not a sharp reflection. And the brightness of the screen can overcome whatever reflection there is except in dark scenes. - 120hz mode I really don't see a lot of difference so I tend to leave things in the regular movie mode, even for baseball - good response time subjective, nothing to compare - good black subjective, nothing to compare - plenty of connections - can custom label the on-screen menu inputs well, it's important to me :)Cons: - no PIP I don't care - no DLNA/Internet connectivity I'm connected to a MediaPC so this would be redundant except for firmware upgrades which have to be done via a USB port (not sure if end user can do that) - the USB port is good only for service, not, for example, loading home pictures - again with a MediaPC it's not needed. The delivery via Amazon/CEVA was by a couple of very nice guys who brought it in, unpacked it, put it on the stand (which I later removed) and turned it on, which was exactly what I wanted and expected. No dead pixels. 15 month warranty (12 month plus 3 more for registering online) which I hope I don't have to use.

5Excellent TV for the price!
By Scott M. Tingley
Just received this TV yesterday and had it up and running in no time at all. I have successfully connected my Cox HD-DVR, Roku (Netflix device), and Pioneer DVD player (1080p upconvert) to the TV...all with new HDMI cables. Visually this TV looks great, I like the piano black finish and the slight champagne gradiant at the bottom...will look even better once we get it up on our wall I think (wife likes the look too).Upon first powering it up I was greeted with a few simple setup questions all laid out nicely on a very easy to read menu system. Once done I was up and running on our Cox HD-DVR. I went to a basketball game that was on and being broadcast in 1080i. Wow, simply wow. Amazing picture quality...and I hadn't even tweaked the settings yet. After watching a few more channels I switched over to my son's Cars (Pixar movie) DVD to check out the 1080p upconvert and the 120Hz dejudder capabilities. I had never really been able to detect the difference of this in big stores, but wow in the Cars movie at home it was very evident and actually looked really cool. The animation was sooo much smoother, it took a little getting used to but now I'm just amazed at it. Some might not like it, but I think most will.SD channels actually look suprsingly ok. Was expecting them to look like total crap on this size TV, but they dont.Later in the evening I started to get down to adjusting the video settings to get the blacks a litter better and the color to be just right (for my eyes anyway). Took about 30-40 mins but I think I have everything set the way I like it, and it looks even better than the initial settings. Blacks are VERY good. For $1468 shipped, this is an amazing TV. Sure it doesn't have some of the newest bells and whistles...but for some of us who don't have a need for those or the added cost, its nice (ie, ethernet port, USB port, 240Hz, etc). There are only 2 little downsides I have come across:1) The sound is only so-so, but that was to be expected...most TVs just aren't spectacular. The sound is very clear, and voices are easy to hear/understand...but just no bass at all. So movies seem a little drab in the sound department. We will be adding a sound bar soon.2) The viewing angle could be a little better I think. The image gets a little washed as you move to the sides of the TV. I was able to minimize some of it by tweaking the backlight level and contrast/brightness. But still could be better. The stand on this unit swivels though, so we just angle it towards the couch or chairs we will be in and the problem is solved.

4Calibration Settings + Tips/Tricks
By April King
Since I have owned this TV for a few months now, I thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and tricks I have learned:PROBLEM: INCOMPATIBLE AUDIO SIGNALAll my A/V devices (360, PS3, Wii, Samsung DTB-H260F) were connected to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver with HDMI, which was set to output to my Sharp Aquos LC-52E77U. And, although the receiver was set to "Audio TV Out" off (and even with it on), the TV kept popping up this error:"Incompatible audio signal has been received, please check the output signal."It only pops up for a few seconds, and only when I would switch devices or resolution or whatever. Still, pretty annoying. Connecting the devices directly to the TV via HDMI caused the same error - the only time it didn't happen is when there was 2ch 44.1/48Khz PCM involved.Unfortunately, unlike every other TV I have ever owned, the Sharp doesn't have a menu option to disable audio. Muting didn't help, either. The solution? Set the audio volume to 0. No more error!PROBLEM: NO DEVICE DETECTED (DVI -> HDMI)When I first got this TV, I plugged in my Mac Mini, using a DVI -> HDMI cable. After using it for a bit, the TV would stop recognizing that the Mac Mini was connected. It turns out that, whenever the Mac Mini would be rebooted or would go to sleep, the Sharp would refuse to recognize that it was connected anymore. The solution? Physically unplugging and plugging in the TV (not just pressing the power button), and disabling sleep on the Mac. I still have to do this unplugging dance occasionally - like for system updates - but not as often as when sleep was enabled. I guess that's the price you pay for a beautiful 1080p HDMI signal, as opposed to a letterboxed 1600x1200 VGA signal - the max this TV supports.CALIBRATION SETTINGSThis TV has some definite problems with blues in areas of high contrast. Here are the best settings I have found, in order of their appearance in the menus:OPC: OffBacklight: +6 (you can adjust up or down a smidge if need be)Contrast: +36Brightness: -6Color: +1Tint: +1Sharpness: -1CMS Hue/Saturation/Value: 0Color Temp.: Low (leave at Mid for color managed devices like Macs, or OTA TV)R Gain: +11G Gain: 0B Gain: -10Fine Motion Enhanced: Off (leave on for sports if you prefer)Active Contrast: OffGamma Adjustment: 0Film Mode: Off (I used Advanced(Low) for sports)Digital Noise Reduction: OffMonochrome: OffRange of OPC: +16 Max, -16 Min (it is off, anyways)

5The G2 is LG's Sweet Spot for 2012!! (George Jetson would LOVE this!)
By Marty Gillis
The LG 55G2 is a revolutionary product. Combining the very best of LG's well above average and mature software operating systems, top of the line IPS panel technology, attractive/futuristic styling and a knockout out version of Google TV powered by a powerful dual core processor, the LG G2 55 Inch Cinema 3D LED/LCD is an entertainment powerhouse!I couldn't wait to pop this out of the box and have a look. It is gorgeous and the 55 inch screen is just the right size to fully immerse yourself into a Blu Ray movie and especially a 3D movie. All my other LG's have been 47 inches and this is my first 55 inch screen. It really is impressive to see it in action. The brushed aluminum bezel and faux metal stand finish matches perfectly. It really does look cushty! The screen is semi glossy but not a mirror like a Plasma can be. I watch in a semi darkened room and it looks fantastic. The speakers are above average for a flat panel. Honestly though, if you spend this much on a TV I would hope you are planning to use at least a sound-bar and sub. But as it is the sound produced by the G2 is more than fine for everyday viewing.Featuring the very latest passive 3D technology for comfort and ease of use and a 1080p native panel resolution coupled with a 120hz refresh rate, you get outstanding video resolution that can easily make your TV shows , DVD's , Streaming Premium Services, Blu Ray discs and media collection look their best while completely immersing you in the action. Staying home never looked so good!(And of course LG has included SIX pairs of passive 3D glasses so you can start watching 3D content right away!)The G2 will look and function equally as well mounted or using the included stand. The stand, while heavy plastic designed to resemble metal, is extremely easy to put together and is the most stable of any TV stand I have ever had. It went together quickly and is solid as a rock. I wish it could tilt forward a bit as well as from side to side, but otherwise I like it very much. I am pushing 60 and with bad arthritis I was still able to unpack, set-up and place the television on my TV table by myself. A Phillips head screwdriver and a bit of patience and TLC are all that is needed. I had this TV out of the box and playing a Blu Ray disc in just about 45 minutes from start to finish. The actual on screen set-up went very quickly. You will need a Google account (they're free) so you can sign in and take advantage of many more features offered. I went ahead and set up the TV without signing in and everything went well. You can use the included IR blaster to control your cable box/DVR with the G2 remote or you can use your Harmony to do it the way you are used to. You have MANY options for controlling this beastie! For those of you used to previous LG models or even the newest models, you will soon notice that accessing the picture adjustment menus (or any other menu) is not quite as fast as before. You need to hit the "home" button on the remote and then point and click on the tool icon next to the input you are currently viewing. From there you get multiple menus that include sub menus. Once you get to the main menu you wish, scrolling up and down is easy, selecting your settings is quick (press and hold to drag settings icons) and if you get lost just press "back" to get back to the previous page. If you are at all computer savvy this process will be 2nd nature and a joy to use. For people of a certain age it may prove a bit more challenging. The best thing to do is give yourself a nice long tour of the software interfaces to get acquainted with things. This could take quite a long time, depending on how much you wish to know, as the menus and options are seemingly endless up to a point. I love it myself. You can pretty much bend this device to your will and customize things the way you want them to be. Again, if you are not tech savvy, this is probably not the TV for you but if you were raised on computers you will love it.I have recently written a few reviews about various new generation LG TV models I currently own and because many features are common to the latest software and display technology used here, I will paraphrase certain portions of my previous reviews when they apply to the very impressive 55G2.But with that said, the 55G2 is virtually in a class by itself and here are some reasons why:No amount of software or bells and whistles will substitute for a great picture. So HOW IS the picture quality on the G2? I had read an early review on CNET that seemed dire. I was NOT expecting much but after powering up and inputting my calibrated settings I use with my LG 7600 the screen came alive with POP and Crisp Clear Fine detail! I was starting to rock and roll! OH YEAH!!!The 55G2 incorporates the very best of LG's combined tech of the last 5 years with unique software interfaces controlling new and exciting home entertainment functionality that takes watching TV and home theater entertainment in general to the next level and beyond. WAY beyond! Take the G2 and add a 3D Blu Ray Player such as the LG BD670 3D Wireless Network Blu-ray Disc Player with Smart TV and a surround audio system and you will never run out of things to watch or do.Watching regular TV, both High Definition broadcasts and recordings from your HD DVR or SD content, the results are simply wonderful. For some folks, that would be enough, but that is just barely scratching the surface. The G2 55 also functions as a full functioning HD media player that can stream from local attached media such as your USB sticks or drives , wireless from your smart phone or laptop/MAC/PC , or any number of premium services. Just feel like surfing the web and updating your facebook status? NO problem. A full functioning Google Chrome browser is ready for your command. And by command I don't just mean typing in the web address with the included Qwerty keyboard remote, but VOICE command as well. Just tell your remote where you want to go online and it will go there. (yes you read that correctly) Honestly, the LG 55 G2 would fit right into The Jetson's living room. The panel itself is indistinguishable from both the new LG 6700 or 6200. In fact, the only real difference between this panel and my 7600 is the refresh rate. The G2 is 120hz and the 7600 is 240hz but in reality achieves the 240hz with a strobing backlight and is in fact a 120hz panel just like the G2! If you have seen or read about ANY of those displays, then you can apply that to the G2 as the end result is almost identical. Same goes for the included video processing but since the G2 does it's math with the aide of a dual core chip, it is even BETTER than my 7600. Honestly folks, I can SEE and appreciate the difference. I was not quite prepared for how GREAT this TV actually performs. This is television ON STERIODS!Speaking of the Dual Core processor, this allows the G2 to process your video at a much faster rate, resulting in glitchless video. Streaming Netflix has never been better and in fact ALL the premium content I viewed looked absolutely fabulous. (a lot depends on your web speed, I am using FIOS at their highest) I prefer a wired connection and have attached an Ethernet cable as an added precaution against stuttering video, but I HAVE tested the G2 with it's wireless connection and watched 'Shutter Island' from Netflix in perfect clarity and motion with minimal loading time. COOL! I can not say the same for my 7600 which sports only the single core which it shares for all processing chores simultaneously. The G2 is definitely the processing power winner here!About the ONLY two downsides I can see in the G2 is like both the LG 6200 and 6700 the G2 does NOT include control over Tru Motion at this time,. This MAY be addressed in a future firmware update but as it is the option is not there. Also, like the 6200 the G2 does NOT include LED Plus Local Dimming. The LG 6700 and above gives you that and of course the 9700 will give you a full array local dimming panel. (costing twice as much though) None of those two things are hampering my enjoyment of the TV. I watched the 3D X-Games sampler on ESPN 3D and it rocked with no motion blur. I also watched a recording from my HD DVR of last weeks Indy 500 and again, no blurring. As for the local dimming, even on my 7600 I have it set to LOW and have noticed it introduces it's own set of visual artifacts when used. Basically if you set your contrast and brightness and backlight correctly (MORE info on that in the comments section) you can extract a very very good picture out of the G2.Streaming a 1080p MKV from local media is also a seamless experience. The G2 can handle data rates from your local attached media up to 20 gigabits per second without a single hiccup or unwanted artifact and output up to Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 core from the optical output. If by any chance you collect and watch PAL video content (I have a large collection of British PAL titles) the G2 will allow PAL to be displayed at 50hz as long as you first upconvert it to 720p or higher. No frame conversion is necessary and PAL video renders beautifully on this LG.TO TRY and keep this review at a manageable length I have included more info on the comments section. Tips for calibrating this display along with observations and comments about flash lighting and other anomalies are covered. Check it out of you want to know even more! (click "comments" at the bottom of this review to see my post)The LG 55G2 (or 47) has exceeded my expectations and is totally set up to be the hub of your entire entertainment center. Content is endless with more to be added thru the app store and firmware updates. Picture quality is excellent for an edge lit LCD/LED and performance is fast and snappy. The whole package is wrapped up in a beautiful modern looking package that will look good in almost any room. This is an excellent Goggle TV system and a great HDTV as well. If you added up all the individual components that the G2 replaces and then add a good 55 inch LED/LCD, the price would be much more than the 2100 the G2 currently sells for. The integration of software and hardware here is well thought out and works seamlessly. Sure, there is always room for improvement, but LG has made a great start here and they do test their software extensively before releasing it which is a HUGE plus for a product like this!Highly Recommended!

3Google - the answer to your tv's problems, or not?
By Brian A. Roush
If you're considering this tv set, the main question you need to consider is whether the Google TV features will outweigh the sacrifices you'll make in picture quality and other functions compared to a non-Google tv. I base this on the premise that at the time of this review, for the same screen size and price, you are choosing between this tv and the LG Cinema Screen 55LM8600 55-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 240 Hz Dual Core LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV and Six Pairs of 3D Glasses. For reference, I have both this set and the 47" version of the LM8600, which I've also reviewed. I chose to use the G2 in my main living room because for our family's needs, it's a better fit. We have just a cable box and a Sony blu-ray player, plus an xbox 360 and Wii. The G2 comes with IR blasters that let the Google remote control the cable box and blu-ray (with some caveats that I'll explain). We don't use a receiver, so all the sound is from the tv. This means that for most functions we can use just the LG's Google magic remote and not have to fumble with 2-3 different ones.Picture Quality---------------The picture quality is better on the LM8600 than the G2. Better blacks, higher refresh rate, and a seemingly more natural 3D out-of-the-box. The LM8600 is also a smart TV, so it still has many of the same apps as does the G2, but you lose the IR blasters and the QWERTY remote control.Don't get me wrong - this set looks REALLY nice and the default 120Hz seems more like traditional motion than the ultra-sharp, almost surreal look of the LM8600. For normal family viewing, this set is fine, but for major sports watchers, 3D content watchers, etc, you might want to consider spending your money on a tv with better TV panel specs vs. the Google features.Yes, I've been able to notice some color/brightness differences near the corners and edges, however I'm not the type to obsess over these. Additionally, while other sets like the LM8600 offer local dimming, from what I've read, many times the preference is to turn those features down or off completely once the set is properly calibrated. I usually do this, as I don't like seeing the set dynamically change brightness as the scene changes. To me that's more noticable than trying to pick out certain small details in shadows, etc.Google TV Functions:--------------------Google TV is NOT the end-game for Smart tv's. While it allows really easy search and web integration, the app support is limited. For instance, Amazon Instant Video is only supported through the Chrome browser and not a dedicated app. Even worse, Hulu and Hulu Plus aren't supported at all - not even through Chrome. Unlike the LM8600, I couldn't find an easy to access app market for the G2.Simply typing on the QWERTY remote instantly brings up search results, whether for tv listings, premium content (paid) listings, or web results. This can be really convenient to just type in a show's name and be able to quickly find when it next airs, on what channel, etc. When you set up Google tv, you enter your cable/dish provider so that it can search the local listings. Search results can also include rentable movies from premium services like Netflix, but you can choose to filter by free results only. The Chrome browser works really well and also allows most flash content to be played. Very nice.User interface & more thoughts on Google tv-------------------------------------------LG's main interface looks very similar between the G2 and LM8600, however the 8600 actually offers MORE flexibility in terms of apps, custom tabs for your favorites, moving items around on the home screen, etc. I find it very frustrating that the G2 will let you add favorites to websites and the like, but that you can't place them where you want. For instance, I added a favorite to the Amazon Instant Video homepage in Chrome. While this favorite shows up in my list of apps, I can't set it to be on the main home-screen of the G2's app interface. Neither can I add or rearrange the order of the tabs that organize the various apps (ie. Premium apps, 3D showcase, Favorites, or Most-Used).Along the bottom of the G2's home screen is a variety of icons, however mousing over them doesn't reveal what they are. You actually have to hit the directional arrows on the remote to highlight a particular icon in order for its text description to appear. And while you can rearrange the order of (most of) the icons, you're limited as to which icons can be placed on that bar. There's also a "Widget" view, however the only widget I've found is a clock - pretty useless.Google Magic Remote-------------------The remote is also a mixed bag. I love the keyboard on it - every "smart" tv should have one of these. It makes searching and using apps so much easier. The down side is the way it functions when controlling other devices through the IR blasters. Many features rely on you pressing two buttons at once - a "FN" (function) button and the appropriate keyboard button. You have to do this for things like controlling power to your cable box, changing input to TV, etc. But this brings some odd effects. For instance, with the power functions there's both an "Input 1 power" and "Input 2 power". As I said earlier, I have the cable box as #1 and blu-ray as #2. However, the power functions only work when you have the TV set to the input source itself. So for instance lets say all 3 things are on - tv, cable box and blu-ray. To turn them all off, you have to switch to the cable box's input then hit FN-Input 1 Power. Now you might think that you could just hit FN-Input 2 Power to shut off the blu-ray. Nope. You have to switch the input of the tv to the blu-ray, then hit FN-Input 1 Power (yes input 1, not input 2). So now both cable box and bluray are off and you can turn off the tv.Another odd thing is that the tv won't let you select an input that's actively producing a signal. Therefore, you can't use the remote to power on your blu-ray player, because it won't send the power signal to the IR blaster unless you have the appropriate input selected (which you can't do because it's off and therefore no signal is being passed to the tv). So it's an odd paradox. In the end, the IR blasters actually send all signals through both IR blasters regardless of which input you select as Input #1 and Input #2. Once set, these show up as "Controllable Inputs" in the tv's input menu, yet they're also available in the standard input list. I've had odd problems where if I select HDMI-1 instead of Controllable Input 1, then the IR blaster doesn't work to control the cable box. When controlling another device through the IR blaster, you often have to hit a directional arrow button before you can use the center "select" button on the remote. So when you load a blu-ray and it's sitting there waiting for you to select "Play" on the disc's menu, you have to hit right (then left) for the remote to go into "blu-ray" mode. Then you can press the center select button to actually start playing the show. Some features like chapter skip don't work for my blu-ray, either. On top of all this, the G2's remote actually does have an IR emitter (the tv's power function is only controllable through IR), but I'm guessing all the IR code sets are stored in the tv rather than the remote, and that's why you have to rely on the IR blasters to control your other devices. So after saying all that, just realize that the Google tv's remote for the G2 is as close as you'll get to having a universal remote that works with the Point-and-click features of LG's magic remotes. That being said, it has some odd quirks to get used to.Google TV IOS app-----------------It's not bad, but there are some times where you'll need to scroll back and forth between pages on your iPhone go go between selecting buttons and using the mouse pointer. One notable thing that it lacks compared to the LM8600's use of the LG Magic app is that you can't view live tv on your iPhone. I tried connecting the G2 to the LG Magic app, but it said that the G2 was unsupported.3D--3D is pretty good, and you can customize the 3D effects, but you have to put 3D into the User-Customizable mode instead of one of the pre-set modes. It took me a while to figure this out because the controls for 3D depth and things show up in the default 3D setting menu, but are greyed out. Only when you change the 3D mode to the user setting are they accessible. At 120Hz, this set is at the low end for passive 3D sets, and I prefer the 3D on the LM8600, though we're not huge 3D watchers. So for me, this wasn't a huge factor in which set to choose. The Google aspect doesn't add anything to 3D experience, so if one of your major uses is 3D, you may wish to look at other sets that put more of the cost toward the picture quality than the Google features.Conclusion----------So after that long-winded review, why 3-stars? I mean, I'm really happy with this tv, but I have to examine based against the LM8600, since they're both LG's and around the same price-point. I chose to use the G2 over the LM8600 because of the extra functions of the IR blasters and universal remote. Yes, it has its quirks and fails the most stringent "wife-tests", but for normal tv viewing it works pretty darn well. it's usable with other inputs, though not the best. You have to keep the other remotes around, but you can get by without them. We're not heavy sports or 3-D watchers, so the LM8600's enhanced picture quality wasn't enough to offset the convenience of the Google features. In all, it's a better "Family-Room" tv. We don't subscribe to Hulu or Netflix, and I only occasionally use Amazon Instant Video. And while AIV isn't a dedicated app, being able to bookmark it (even if it takes a couple extra clicks) is offset by the fact that I can actually browse for shows using the web-based interface and a full qwerty keyboard. If this tv was for a dedicated theather or sports room, I'd have chosen the LM8600 or other non-Google models as they still offer many premium apps, have a usable remote, but offer better picture specs for the same or less money.

4Ditch cable, buy this
By T. K. Sung
I don't know if 8M:1 contrast ratio is any better, but the pics on this set is spectacular enough. And it has Google TV built in. You could get a cheaper plasma set and slap on a Google TV box for $99, but you won't get as nicer picture quality, and having the box built into TV is cleaner. I have my 100 mbps connection hooked to it and watching programs on Internet mostly. When I need local channels $19 antenna picks up 50 channels. Who needs cable? On down side, it seems to be slower than it should be. The spec says duel core processor, but it is slower than my 5 year old laptop over wireless. It takes longer to render nyt.com, for example. And it is clocked at 14 mbps download speed where as my laptop on the same 100mbps connection clocks at 60 mbps. (UPDATE: I ran the speed test more thoroughly, and the speed on the TV was same as the laptop. The initial test must have been a fluke). Google TV still has ways to go before it can claim to be an appliance too. (I haven't seen Apple TV, but I'll bet it's UI is cleaner and more intuitive). It's remote control takes some time to get used to also. You have to click several times to get to the last channel or one of your favorite channels. (menu->arrow down->last, menu->favorite channels->your channel).I'm still giving 5 stars because of the picture quality, and being able to use your 55" as your computer without slapping on anything is a kick. 3D is cool too.UPDATE: After 6 mo use, I'm taking a star away because some videos that work flawlessly on my 5 year old laptop frequently malfunction. NYT video sometimes runs at half the speed getting out of sync with sound, and Flash crash is so frequent that it is practically unusable. When scrolling, the images will lurch up separate from texts on some web pages. Not sure if it is the slow 1GHz L9 processor or Google TV software at fault, but forget about using it as a general purpose browser.

4Macbook Pro Users Watch Out!
By YPNA
I had compared lots of similar HDTVs with different brands such as Samsung, Sony, LG, etc... Then, I found out Vizio provided the best price and more functions than other brand name TVs; therefore, I decided to go for Vizio SV472XVT. Personally, this is my first HDTV, and I loved it very much. Everything is great about this TV, but there are few things I would like to point out.1. I tried to use this TV as a big screen for my Macbook Pro. I followed the instruction on TV menu and connected this TV with a mini-display/HDMI cable on HDMI 3 port and Y-split audio cable for sound, and it didn't work. In the beginning, I thought I might have problems with my new cables and my Macbook Pro; so, I called Apple to have my computer and cable checked out at Apple store. Then, everything worked fine there. After that, I called Vizio about this problem, and they couldn't figure out what's wrong with it (I spent more than hours on total 3 calls with them. The good thing is Vizio customer service was very patient and nice with me.) The only thing they could recommend was to use the VGA(RBG as on Vizio) cable instead of HDMI cable. So, I tried that, and it worked fine... I just felt sad that I couldn't use the HDMI to get better images from my computer. I went to my friend's house to test the computer on a Sony TV, and didn't have this problem. So, the only thing I could think of is the TV HDMI is not compatible with Macbook Pro. However, it could only happen on my computer or TV. I do recommend to bring your Macbook Pro to test it out before you buy it if it is an important issue to you as to me. (By the way, the HDMI 3 port I tested with my PS3 was fine.)2. The TV has lots of small applications to access certain websites, but there is no browser, which means you can't go anywhere as you wanted. Before I got this TV, I used PS3 to view and browse internet on TV. When I noticed the internet capability on this TV, I was expecting it might have the same function as PS3. Well, apparently, I was wrong. I read lots of reviews before I went for this TV, and I didn't see anyone mentioned about this point... So, I just want to point this out... I also checked with Vizio about the browser issue, and they don't have a plan to develop one just yet... However, it might happen in the future... I just don't know how long do I need to wait for that to happen. ^_^3. The model #SV472XVT is very confusing with another model #XVT472SV that doesn't have internet capability. I ordered SV472XVT from Amazon, and they delivered the wrong model. So, I had to place another order to replace the wrong model because Amazon couldn't make a change on the first order. I waited for around 3 weeks for this TV to arrive from the first day I ordered. Also, Amazon forgot to notice the shipper to swap the wrong TV for me. The huge TV box was siting with me for another 5 days, and I am still waiting a refund from Amazon due to late return. So, it will be better to double check with the shipper or Amazon that you are getting a correct model before it happened to your order too.Basically, I wanted to give a 4.5 rating to this TV, but there is no such option available. So, I decided to give a 4-star rating. I do hope the HDMI 3 issue can be solved, and I am still waiting Vizio's feed back. If the problem was solved, I will update my review here again.

5Absolutely Love this TV
By J. Gowan
I've had my Vizio SV472XVT TV for around 2 months so far (I bought it directly from Vizio in a special deal they had pre-release). I can't say enough good things about it.First, the LED backlit screen produces an excellent picture. I would go so far as to say it's on PAR with any Samsung or Sony that I've seen. Blu-ray movies and PS3 games look perfect. The collection of "widgets" is amazing. Netflix Streaming, Amazon-on-Demand, Vudu, Pandora, Rhapsody, Twitter, Facebook, eBay, Flickr, various Yahoo widgets, the list goes on. Some games like Sudoku and Texas Hold'em, which are neat, but would be better if you could watch TV while playing them. They have even added widgets since I bought the TV. That was actually an unusual experience seeing my TV doing an automatic firmwear update. My TV is connected to the internet through my wireless G router and a cable internet connection and streaming video quality is excellent. I've taken to watching a lot of Netflix HD streaming (there's a good amount of TV shows that stream in HD. The movie selection isn't as great), but I've also watched streamed HD video from Amazon on Demand and Vudu (HDX on Vudu which is 1080p). I haven't had a single video quality problem streaming from any of these sources. The bluetooth remote is a bit of a love/hate relationship though. The Loves:1. Having a full qwerty keyboard is awesome, especially while searching through the widgets, or posting to twitter or facebook through the TV.2. The bluetooth connectivity is great. I don't have to point it at the TV to change the volume or turn it on. It unfortunately still needs to be pointed at the cable box. That's something I can live with.3. It was very easy to setup. The Hates:1. I was hoping a bluetooth remote to be able to communicate with my PS3, unfortunately I'm still using a PS3 controller when watching blu-rays.2. It's just not very comfortable. It's square and there was no thought to ergonomics. And the shiny finish is a fingerprint magnet.3. It doesn't have all the buttons that I would like from my cable remote. Page Up/Down and Day +- are the main ones. The absence of Page Up/Down can be a drag and at times leaves me reaching for the cable remote, the Day +- isn't as much of a loss.All-in-all, it was absolutely worth the price and I would buy it again. Although, I would consider the 55-inch as well.

4Dawn of a new era of HDTV's from Vizio? Let's hope so!
By C. Canfield
I received this item around the last week of March 2010 and decided to postpone submitting my comments about this HDTV until my excitement wore off. The verdict........ Very GOOD!Let's start w/ the packaging. Vizo, I think has the coolest packaging I've seen to date. The box the TV came in is so colorful plus it advertises all the cool neat features you will find on the HDTV that's inside. There is also these (4) neat little plastic clips on the base of the box that you simply squeeze and pull out. This allows the end user to lift the outer carton up and off the base of the carton to reveal the foam protected TV that's covered in clear plastic. Now that's what I call making an impressive introduction! To be honest the TV styling is very bland and the silver piece is kinda cheesy. I would have loved to have seen this TV with the Vizio "Java" styled bezel but in a solid black color instead of the brown (Now that would have been SWEEEEET).The setup went very smooth, however the picture on this HDTV out the box was cranked too high for my taste. Trying to adjust the settings on my own was a real challenge with so many options that the picture settings allows. I just finally ended up going online to [...] and punched in a great starter picture setting. The setting gave my TV picture that beautiful image "Pop" after some personal tweaking of course. The remote was not very comfortable to hold unless I was typing on the Qwerty keypad. The keypad is responsive, even though the buttons are a bit stiff, but it's new so I'm sure over time they will soften somewhat. The bluetooth signal is very strong and the Apps fuction works very well. The video / movie streaming via VUDU was very good with minimal buffering using AT&T Elite DSL service.Ok.. Let me break this review down into Pro's and Cons.Pro's:Brilliant packaging! A well thought out and consumer friendly packaging that's second to none that I've seen. It makes shipping TV's like these so much easier and safer for both retailer and consumer.Simple set up. The TV pretty much walked me through setting up the cable connection and WiFi internet. The remote control is responsive most of the time and the Blue-tooth works well with this TV. I can't comment on how well it works with other devices because I only used it on the Vizio TV exclusively. The Vizio Apps is why I purchased this HDTV and they performed wonderfully. Once you've streamed movies wireless via Netflix and Vudu you will not want to watch rentals any other way (except in Blue Ray). Nice job Vizio! Side note: Vudu has more HD and HDX movies than Netflix. There's plenty of picture settings (can be a bit overwhelming from some).Picture is bright crisp, clear and almost flawless once the picture settings are set just right. The built in HD tuner pulled in so many of HD & SD channels! I'm just running basic cable to the back of the TV without a box. I was really surprised that no one mentioned in their review how receptive the Vizio tuners are. Really impressive! The TV sound is acceptable and much better than most this size, but it's no home theater either.Price and value! You can't beat the amount of features you get on this TV for the price ....it's unmatched period. !Now the Cons:The TV styling is bland and cheesy. (The "Java" bezel should have been used for this TV, but in a solid black or solid gray color)The remote is very chunky and does not feel comfortable unless you're typing on the Qwerty keypad. All (3) USB ports are disabled. That's unacceptable and could be a deal breaker until it is resolved. I would have liked one USB to have been functional, but all three is just terrible. The Vizio logo is always on. Stand-by color is orange (off mode). Power on color is bright white (On mode). There's no setting to turn the logo light off. It's my understanding that this is common on all Vizio sets but the end user should have a way to turn it off if they want to.TV locked up a few times requiring me to unplug it from the wall and reboot. This happened while cycling through the TV menu settings twice and while watching a TV show once on cable. The TV also makes a subtle clicking / popping sound 20 to 30 seconds after it has been powered off. I don't no why nor have I contacted Vizio to find out why. Like I said it's very subtle not annoying. There was also a problem with the TV remembering custom settings after changing channels or turning the TV off and on. That problem seems to have subsided now (possibly via automatic firmware update). The confusing model numbers. I made a mistake and ordered the Tru-LED model without Vizio Apps by mistake because of the similarity of the model numbers. Fortunately, I was able to catch my mistake in time before the incorrect TV had shipped out to me.Overall:I would recommend this TV for the price. I believe this TV could serve as a new beginning (if you will) for the Vizio brand, but only time and reliability will tell. I truly hope Vizio embraces this opportunity to push forward and produce quality HDTV products that can garner a new respect for the Vizio brand. Let's hope so!

4Awesome TV, Super value
By tdudnyk
Just got this baby installed to replace a 65 inch Panasonic plasma. U love how all of these dopey industry reviewers like CNET have got this tv dead wrong. They put it on a bench and test its specs, blah, blah, blah. Simply mount this beast on a wall, play your favorite movie, and get totally immersed and blown away because the image is really really good and the size is MASSIVE. This is how content is meant to be viewed:1. A great viewing experience, especially 3D, is highly correlated to a larger image. It is real simple: you get immersed in a bigger picture than you do a 40 inch picture. For this reason, big tv's like this should be reviewed as providing an extraordinary experience that matches the movie theater experience because the screen is so stinking huge. Don't believe me? Play TRON on the world's best 40 inch tv, or 55 or 65 for that matter and then watch it on this beast. Hands down, you are choosing the 90 inch Sharp. Here's another point: I did a side by side with the Sharp 80 inch, and I still chose the 90 inch. It was simply more immersive2. It is true it doesn't have the world's most advanced picture, but you won't notice it because you are so immersed in the viewing experience3. In 30 minutes, I no longer noticed how big this tv was. That is how quickly we got used to viewing it. Our old 65 that it replaces looks so insignificant now4. For the huge majority of people, projectors are a fussy, royal pain in the ass whose time has come and gone. Comparing this to a projector means you really don't know what you are talking about. Unless you live in a cave, you just aren't going to get the contrast and picture that this thing provides.5. I bought my Panasonic 65 in 2005. Since then, how many manufacturers have developed bigger tv's than this? Almost no one. Samsung has been sitting on their hands forever. I think they may be launching a 70 inch sometime soon but for some god awful amount of money (I have 4 Samsungs. I know the brand quite well). Sony? Panasonic? No one is going above 65 inches since 2005. Lame. Sharp blew through this barrier and I am really glad they did6. I almost forgot to mention: the 3D is awesome. Just watched CARS and Harry Potter in 3D and everyone who watched it preferred 3D to 2D. Now I have to figure how to get 3D content without buying overpriced DVDsI actually believe this tv is a steal. I bought it online at EastCoast TVs for 8K and plan on having it for probably the next 7-8 years. 15 people in my great room can all sit on the couch and watch this thing at the same time. It really is a great value. We are thrilled with our choice.

1Dark bands on sides, inconsistant black level
By GadgetGuy
Great looking TV but two very noticeable problems. 1) Slightly dark bands are visible on either sides. These bands run down the entire side of the TV about an inch from either side. Very visible when they background is a uniform and light in color. 2) The black level is not uniform across the TV. Lighter blotches are visible in a dark background. See the two 'customer images'. I have tried changing the brightness, backlight, gamma but it makes no difference. Customer support at Sharp had me factory reset the system but the problems continue. I would not recommend this TV until these problems are resolved.

5Perfect for small room.
By Sally J. Siegrist
Bought this tv for use in my very small breakfast room. There weren't many choices in 19 in tv's. It is the right size for the small table that it sits on. The picture is very clear, and the color is sharp. The volume is fine for the small room, but I do wish it was loud enough to be clearly heard in the adjoining kitchen. LCD is just fine for the size--no need for plasma. I would definitely buy the same one again.

2TV angle cannot be adjusted
By Deuk
I've had this TV for 1 month. It is OK and the purchase was good for the features. I have it connected to my computer via the HDMI connector as well as to my cable TV line. It's a good, compact size and fits well on my desk. The four favorites buttons on the remote control are very convenient. To the subject... "TV angle cannot be adjusted" is a quote from the user's manual, but not anywhere on the Amazon page for the product. This is a problem since the vertical viewing angle seems to be very small. The Amazon page specifies a 170 degree horizontal (left and right) number and a 160 degree vertical (up and down) number. That just means you can see the picture; the quality is vastly degraded at those angles.I expect most inexpensive HD TV/Monitors have small viewing angles without degradation. I calculate the vertical view angle to be about 10 to 15 degrees without noticeable degradations, (like washed out faces and loss of contrast). A high quality LCD TV might be 20 to 30 degrees. To compensate for a small vertical viewing angle, a tilt is usually available; sometimes a height adjustment; sometimes both. Without the adjustment, unless your eyes are at the level of the screen, the picture appears washed out for this TV. For instance, sitting about 3 feet from the screen, it only takes your eye to be about 3 inches higher than the top of the TV for the center of the screen to appear washed out. The stand is very short on this TV, so I think typically it would not be at your eyeball level whether it sits on your desk in your office or sits on your kitchen counter. The picture is good with direct, inline viewing. It is a shame Sharp didn't provide a tilt feature. For me, it is fine since I just put an old paperback book under the front of the stand to tilt it up. My relative position to the TV doesn't change.

5Quirky DLNA, underwhelming documentation, but great picture and sound
By Tommy M.
I chose this model over other 32-inch LCDs because I'm a sucker for things like network streaming, a 5-band equalizer, picture-in-picture, and firmware updating. It also has a semi-documented headphone jack in the rear -- just turn off the speakers for it to work. Also, the power cable detaches, so you can replace that yourself. One might dismiss this TV altogether since it doesn't have LED edge lighting, but that tech does not appear to be earning its price premium so far, considering a higher percentage of panel defects, and a black level so intense that detail often gets lost. 60Hz is also not a deal-breaker, since 120Hz tends to only show its strength with sports programming. The picture quality is ultimately subjective, of course. But I found it well above average. Unfortunately, you can't completely disable Dynamic Contrast. The TV will tell you that it's off, but some enterprising Internet detectives at televisioninfo.com have determined that this is a ruse, which leads to some unavoidable light trailing and somewhat crushed blacks. DVDs look surprisingly good, and standard-definition signals look very solid but not outstanding.Dynamic Contrast, Black Tone, Shadow Detail, Edge Enhancement and the noise filters should probably be turned off. Unfortunately, these features can create more problems than they solve; use them sparingly. Like Spider-Man once said, "With power comes responsibility."I have a Roku box connected through HDMI, an Xbox 360 via component, and clear QAM cable TV through the RF antenna jack in the rear. These hookups are going straight into the TV inputs -- no receiver. I figure that this eliminates a testing variable or two. Picture quality and sound was great from all three sources. When I streamed Netflix over Xbox Live, the Xbox appeared to upscale to 1080i. I could not get my 720p Roku box to do this over HDMI.(Edit: I have also now tried a third-party VGA adapter for the Xbox 360. It looks quite good using the console's "Expanded" reference level; at least on par with component, and upscaled DVDs look quite good, but not as good as Blu-ray.)Audio is in a better boat, since the SRS functions can actually be turned off (as far as we know). There's also that 5-band equalizer. I thought the TV did surprisingly well for two downward-facing 10-watt speakers, but they won't quite replace dedicated external audio. The D550 doesn't do Internet apps, but this feature is becoming increasingly redundant. As for network sharing, you are not limited to Samsung's proprietary, Windows-only "PC Share Manager" software, either. There's a variety of free, multi-platform software that handle networked media libraries. Unfortunately, Samsung appears to have not implemented DLNA according to spec, so you may have trouble getting third-party software to work properly. I had the best experience with TVMobili, which is thankfully free and compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. Serviio is also good.In its promotional material, Samsung swears that its Wi-Fi "LinkStick" dongle is *required* for wireless networking (and it is not bundled with this TV). This is simply not the case. You can just use a wireless-N Ethernet "game adapter," which can be had for as little as $30 if you shop around. Dongles are also only compatible with a few devices from one manufacturer.(Edit: It's come to my attention that an Intellinet 523974 *might* also work in place of Samsung's official dongle. I cannot directly confirm it, though. It is also reportedly 2.4Ghz, while the dual-band Samsung model adds a 5Ghz option.)The "E-manual" built into the TV's menu system isn't very good and is difficult to navigate. The PDF version on their website is... a PDF version of the e-manual. Which is white text on a black background. So much for printing it out...Also, the two-piece pedestal requires a Phillips screwdriver. That's not bad, but the screws required quite a lot of torque to get them all the way in. Also, you need to attach the top part at a certain angle, or else it won't be flush with the base.A note about shipping: Amazon Prime does not currently provide 2-day or next-day shipping for this unit; "3-5 business days" is the official line. This is not unusual for products of this size and weight. However, the unit arrived at my door less than 48 hours after I ordered it. So I appreciate Amazon's and UPS's fast service! But your own experience will vary according to your distance from the warehouse and other factors.(Update 4/25: This item is not currently shipped from and sold by Amazon, nor eligible for Amazon Prime. "Video & Audio Center" is handling the item instead. I am not familiar with their service, so the previous paragraph does not apply to the current purchase experience. "3-5 business days" is still the official shipping time, but I don't know how long it may take this third party to process the order before shipping. It may take a few hours, or a few days. Just a friendly heads-up.)Despite this TV's quirks and poor documentation, I think it gets 5 stars for a really good picture and above-average sound (as long as you tweak that equalizer for some bass). I guess that's what matters most in the end, right? Please leave a comment if I've left you with questions, and I'll answer to the best of my knowledge.--Edit Jan 13 2012--Just reporting in to say that the unit is still performing just fine. It's performed quite well as an interim computer monitor -- just make sure to label the input as "PC." I don't recommend using it as a permanent computer display, because pixel density at this screen size is sub-optimal. (At desktop distance, you don't want larger than 24 inches, assuming a maximum resolution of 1920x1080.) But with some cool-looking wallpaper, its presence is not unwelcome :)However, LG has been pricing their LCDs very aggressively lately, so I recommend researching those units as well.

4Great Buy!
By D. Acree
I bought this item a few days ago after doing a multitude of research on flat screen TV's. Frankly, I was ready to be done! Our focus was finding a TV with an external width no larger than 37 5/8". We were faced with a limited selection of 37" TV's or some barely close 40" TV's. The 40" TV's that we had to choose from were LED and cost roughly $1000 or more. Rather than being faced with a close fit of an expensive TV, we decided 37" would suffice. Then we were caught between buying a Samsung or a Sony and whether to get LED or LCD. In my opinion, the Sony brand commands a brand premium in price. Nice TV's though. I read a lot about LED v. LCD. The LCD is still energy efficient and is energy star qualified. After seeing the picture difference of the LCD and LED. My wife and I were both okay with LCD. Then I researched the difference of 60 hz versus 120 hz refresh rates. Okay, I understand the technical mumbo jumbo of this, but after comparing in a store the difference I couldn't tell. Maybe my eyes are not good enough anymore. We also bought the Samsung USB wireless adapter. I thought from all my reading that this TV had some Internet functionality i.e. Netflix etc. It DOES NOT. If you have a Wii or some other game platform that allows internet access - use it and save your money. The wireless adapter will work with some Samsung Blu-Ray players as well. The only thing the wireless adapter will do is connect with your pc network and play movies, music, and pictures from your pc. If this for you - great buy the wireless. Note: it has a network interface for wired applications on the back as well. The nitty gritty of the TV. It works fantastic. Exceeded expectations on standard definition movies and TV broadcasts. No dark "halo" effects when the picture is dark. HD works fantastic...almost too clear and crisp to tell the truth. Works great in the game mode with the Wii. I know other's have said the sound/speakers were issues, but my family thinks it works just fine. The PIP(picture in a picture) function only works when viewing programs from two sources i.e. broadcast and DVD. Not a big user of PIP. Set up is easy. Remote is easy and intuitive to use. The enclosed manual is "light" on info. TV does have a manual you access through TV - it is more in-depth. For $569 and our first upgrade from a CRT TV - I have no regrets. TV is great for everyday use - watching broadcast, movies, games, and PC use. But then again, we didn't need all the bells and whistles of higher end models. Hope this helps your decision.

5Best TV I've personally seen in 2010 and 2011
By Eric Berg
For the last year I've been looking for a TV to replace my 2009 Samsung 26" LCD. It had what some people call "smudging" or "smearing" where if two really dark images move near one another, the black area would leave a trail. It looks sort of like when you make a dark circle with a pencil and run your finger over it. It made night scenes in movies and games really distracting. I even saw it in people with black hair watching 720p Lost episodes. From what I can tell so far, this set has none of it. I went through a Sony, a Toshiba, an LG, and another Samsung. All but the LG had this issue, and the LG had atrocious black levels due to it being a technically "better" IPS panel. I love my LG IPS monitors, but for TV it looks awful. So I stuck with Samsung's PVA panels, and boy am I glad I did.I immediately turned off all the video processing options and turned the backlight down from 14 to 8. IMPECCABLE picture as far as I'm concerned. Looks incredible even at 1080i. It's no plasma, but hey, 32-inch plasmas don't exist, so I'm content with LCD.I have no idea how the input lag is for video games since I play relatively slowly paced games. No fighters, competitive FPS, or other twitch reflex games in my library. I'd be a bit leery if that's super critical for you until more accurate tests are out there. It seems fine to me, but I'm not very sensitive to lag, so take it with a grain of salt.Bottom line, great picture quality, great black levels (for an LCD), decent motion handling (it IS only 60Hz), lots of options to mess with, plenty of inputs, a sleek design. I would buy this TV again in a heartbeat, personally. As the first reviewer said, JUST what I was looking for.
