I purchased one of these HDTV units two weeks ago. The picture is great and the internal audio is very acceptable. The HDMI inputs sense when there is a signal the TV automatically switches to that input. The only cons are centered around the wireless connection and the fact that the external audio output is only available through its fiber 5.1, thus I can not use my current Altec sound system. The wireless is very sporadic including fact the system wouldn't work with my Netgear WNR2000 router. I purchased a replacement Linksys WRT160N and the TV finds the router but Netflix has a difficult time loading. I am still working with the Philips wireless folks, who are very professional to resolve this issue. Interestingly I can use my laptop plugged into the PC input and watch Netflix without interruption.I would consider purchasing the TV again.9/14/2011 -- After working with the Cisco Linksys wireless router support personnel we successfully connected to the internet and now receive both Netflix and VuDu streaming videos. During these issues I found out this in a 2010 model and there is a newer 2011 model.

this thing is awesome. dont believe the negative remarks. as with pretty much any product on the net, ull find the ppl that dont know much about the things they buy complain. this thing pretty much hooked itself up to the net and my pc. no probs at all. the picture is killer. the sound isnt the fullest(to be expected from such a thin tv). the remote and ui is superb. buy these while they are a steal. or i will...

4Nice!
By Reilly
I like all aspects of this TV. I just am uncertain of the whole wifi claim. I thought I could access the Internet but haven't figured that out yet. Sound is definitely good as well as picture. I'm very satisfied!!!

5Great for the money!
By T. Boling
I'm writing this only because there are no other reviews, and this product has been out for a while. I bought this TV about a year, maybe a year and a half ago. I got it at Walmart for $211 as my first LCD TV and have never had a problem with it. I use it mostly for watching movies on my Playstation2 and 3, and as a PC monitor, and it works great for all three purposes. It has an easy to use on-screen menu, and lets you change quite a few settings to get the best picture. I do have to switch to a "darker" setting to use it as a PC monitor, or the screen will be a little blurry. Not a big deal. The only thing it doesn't have, and I really wish it did, is some sort of audio output, to let me redirect sound from the TV to external speakers. The built-in speakers do the job very well, though not much bass in it since the speakers are small. :)I don't use this TV in a large room. It might be hard to see if I did. It sits on a table next to my computer, maybe 3 feet away from me, and works great for that.If you're living on a budget, and don't need a TV that fills up an entire wall, this's perfect! :)

4Hands down, the best TV at this price point!
By M. Barnes
Let me start off by giving you some background. I have owned 3 Sony HDTV's since 2006. The first was a rear projection LCD model that I purchased for about $3800 in mid-2006 and had a design defect with something called the "optic block" that ended up as the subject of a class action lawsuit. Sony extended the warranty for a year because of it. Some people got new flat panel TV's for free or extreme discounts. Mine was repaired once and by the time it broke again, which was inevitable, It was out of warranty and Sony wouldn't help me. I have bought Sony all my life and thought that sometime you just get a lemon, so I gave them another chance and in mid-2009 bought a KDL-52V5100 for about $2000. I had nothing but problems right out of the box. The TV's auto dimming feature would make the screen so dim that it went very dark in movies and video games and you couldn't see anything in dark scenes, EVEN WITH SMART DIMMING TURNED OFF! Sony sent me a firmware update, which didn't fix it. Then they sent me a new TV, same problem. It was obviously a software/hardware design issue. They sent me a KDL-52W5100 as a replacement, which was a slight upgrade. I was fairly happy with that TV other than the 8-bit panel which did cause noticeable banding at times. Then, in May of 2012, roughly 3 years old it started exhibiting a picture problem where the whole left side of the screen would turn green and horizontal lines covering the rest of the screen appeared along with a terrible high pitched squealing noise. Sony, of course, refused to help me as this TV only had a 1 year warranty. I found out from a local shop that it needed a new LCD panel for about $1600, which of course meant that my 3 year old TV was now a big door stop. The Sony name used to mean quality, but after spending almost $6000 in roughly 4 years and then having no working TV is ridiculous. I decided I was done with Sony. It's really too bad. I've been buying Sony my whole life. Before this I didn't really consider Vizio because it's always been a pretty low end brand. I did some research and found the M3D550KD, which had the same features as the $2400 Sony KDL-55HX850 (except for Gorilla Glass). In fact it scored better than the Sony by far in native contrast ratio and black level. A review from PC Magazine gave it 4 out of 5 stars and the editor's choice award. See review on pcmag.com.**After connecting to my WI-FI and turning the TV off for about 10 minutes, when I turned back on it had updated itself to the latest firmware.First thing I did was calibrate the TV using Digital Video Essentials HD - DVE HD Basics Blu-ray. The settings I came up with are below.User Menu Settings:* Picture Modeso Picture Mode : Customo Color Temperature : Normalo Aspect Ratio : Normal/Wide* Picture Settingso Backlight : 55o Contrast : 50o Brightness : 42o Color : 55o Tint : -1o Sharpness : 8* Advanced Videoo Smooth Effect : Offo Real Cinema Mode : Smootho Noise Reduction : Offo Color Enhancement : Offo Adaptive Lumina : Offo Film Mode : Autoo Smart Dimming : Offo Ambient Sensor : Off**XBOX360 Users Note: One thing that kind of freaked me out when I first hooked up my XBOX was that if you set resolution to 1080p most of the advanced picture settings disappear from the menu. Not just greyed out/unavailable, the menu actually changes. If you set the TV to the input your XBOX is connected to, bring up the TV settings menu, then power on the XBOX you can actually watch the picture settings menu change! The picture mode (Custom, Standard, Movie, Etc.) in gone, the advanced picture menu is gone and the only options available are Contrast, Brightness, Backlight, Game mode and Ambient Light Sensor. I called Vizio and after finally getting hold of a engineer rather than tech support he verified that it was by design. Apparently the XBOX can communicate with the TV and takes over all these settings. It knows what the TV can and can't do and takes full advantage of the TV's capabilities. If I set the resolution to 1080i it didn't do this. I was a little worried about this at first, but after setting to 1080i and using my tweaked settings I could not make it look nearly as good as the XBOX controlled settings when set to 1080p. The picture was amazing! The PS3 does not exhibit the same behavior when set to 1080p although still looks amazing with my custom settings.PROS:* Verifiable 10-bit panel, so no banding (most companies are not disclosing anymore).* Very complete set of advanced customizable picture settings.* Audio was surprisingly better than I expected and better than other LED backlit super thin TV's I've looked at.* Excellent color and black level.* Bluetooth Remote with built-in QWERTY keyboard.* 3D is excellent, it really pops and the TV comes with 4 pairs of glasses (So far, testing with 3D Blu-ray and XBOX 3D games the TV auto detects if you turn 3D on and I haven't had to set the mode manually in the TV menu).* LG panel (So basically it's generic LG)* Inexpensive 3D glasses because of passive 3D. ($4 for a pack of 2 on Amazon)* Lots of built-in web apps. (haven't had any crashing as others have reported)* Better than expected Standard Definition picture quality.* Customizable EQ audio settings are a plus. (Not quite as customizable as my old Sony but still very good)CONS:* Screen is more on the glossy side than the matte side so it's semi reflective which makes room placement more important (more so than my old Sony) but not full glossy like most of the Samsung's I looked at.* No 2D to 3D conversion.* Noticeable blooming on really dark scenes (common in all edge-lit LED/LCD's).* Noticeable "electronic" smell for about the first 3 or 4 days. It's gone now (common in new electronics also).* As with all Vizio's I've seen, the menu and Apps are a bit slow and clunky (especially compared to the Sony, but it's literally half the price of the equivalent Sony!)* No manual firmware updates check that I can see and none to download on Vizio's website (although it automatically updated itself almost immediately after I connected it to my WI-FI)* No DLNA or web browser, which most brands include in a TV of this caliber (possible firmware update in the future?)* Uses more power than most LED/LCD TV's this size (108 Watts).Bottom Line:The best "bang for your buck" TV out there! At this price, you will not be disappointed! This is my first Vizio and I love it. 3D is great, lots of features, and great built-in internet apps.

4Great Picture
By Dave the rave
I wanted to order this from amazon, but they were out of stock, so got it on Costco.com. I was hesitant to get a vizio, but I already spent good money on 60" Panasonic plasma for our finished basement, so this TV was for the family room. So I figured I would risk the better quality for features, size and price. Now that I have it, I dont feel I risked too much! The picture on this vizio is awesome. It took some time to fiddle with the settings (no suggested calibration on any websites as its a new model). I am shocked at the picture quality, especially after reading all the videophile reviews about plasma vs. led. My Panasonic St30 is awesome, but this picture is nearly the same. To be picky, the contrast/blacks might be slightly better on the panny, but it's hard to tell. Not only that, my family room where this tv is located has two large windows FACING the tv! I thought the screen was a pure matte, but I would call it a dull semi gloss. A first I was upset and thought it would ruin the daytime viewing experience. My family laughed at me saying, "what are you talking about?". They see no glare. I see some when shows go to commercial or screen is black.Once you find your settings to your liking, the picture, color is exceptional. I don't quite understand all the talk about judder/motion blur/etc. only thing I've seen is the occasional ghosting of a baseball on some throws from outfielder to home plate. But nothing during other parts of game. Watched some football replays on nfl network...no issues..Have only used 3d to test it with avatar bluray. Insane picture and really pops. The remote with slide out keyboard is a bonus. Easily synced it with cable box and bluray player. My family loves only using one remote. Sound is so much better than you hear about with new TV's. I still have it hooked up to receiver and klipsch surround speakers, but rarely used by family so far. SRS surround is actually pretty good at some surround effect sound. The apps are good, but a bit sluggish. Won't use much other than amazon video. Watched African cats on amazon and picture was crazy good. Some pixelation, but mainly due to my crappy Comcast Internet. All in all, I highly recommend. And I wont say a good value for budget HDTV. It's a great deal regardless. Picture will rival much more expensive TV's. Now only time will tell in regards to longevity.

5Great TV for me
By I bought it
I've owned this TV for a month and I love it! Setup was very easy. The built in WIFI works great! The picture is bright and clear. I left everything set the way it was out of the box and we are very happy. Our room has three windows facing the screen and even on the brightest days, I don't have any problems with glare or the picture not being being enough. We even have light about two feet away from where it's mounted on the wall. No problem with that either. The sound for a flat pannel TV is pretty good. In fact I haven't even seriously considered upgrading sound yet. It's adequate for regular veiwing. The 3D is very cool. I bought Underworld Awakenings with my new 3D Blu Ray player. Again the picture was outstanding and the 3D works very well. The only problem I have is the keyboard on the remote doesn't always register the keys I push. One out of ten letters will be lost. This is not a problem for me and if I had to have a problem, this is what I would have picked. You simply can't beat the value with this TV. It has every current feature there is and in my opinion, works very well. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

5Great TV With Latest Features
By Love Technology
Vizio background: Vizio is a privately held US corporation, with about 417 employees. Unlike other TV manufacturers Vizio handles design, engineering, and over sees manufacturing for their TV's but outsources the manufacturing to 3 different companies in China, Taiwan, and Mexico. Vizio's philosophy is to sell quality TV's at value prices. Vizio doesn't spend money on marketing and passes on the savings to its customers that purchase their products through Amazon and warehouse clubs.UPDATE 2/2/2013 Software Update - I have had this TV for 8 months and today is the first time that I saw a message on the screen that said software on this TV has been updated. The main enhancement is that switching between channels is much snappier. In the past I had 8 to 10 channels that would take a long time to switch. Now this is down to about 2 channels that only take 5 to 8 seconds to switch. Which is much better than it had been previously. If your TV is connected to the Internet you will receive the update. Otherwise I suspect that you may have to contact Vizio to obtain a software patch that you may need to put on a usb memory stick so that you can install the update to the system. In addition there are several additional applets that you can play with, but most of it is to access premium content, as in send money...This is a 47" Vizio LED - LCD with Internet and 3D, this TV has all the latest features. The sound quality is average on this TV. It also has 4 HDMI ports, and comes with 4 pairs of 3D glasses, and also has wireless connectivity. I bought the TV because of features, cost and because I wanted passive 3D not the active 3D that comes with expensive battery operated glasses. Why do I care about 4 HDMI outputs? Well this is now the de facto norm for best connectivity options.Connections:1) HDMI for Comcast cable box. If you want to receive 3D you will need to upgrade to a Cisco RNG 200 cable box (standard issue Comcast cable box doesn't support 3D). The only connection on the Cisco that supports 3D connectivity is HDMI.2) HDMI for DVD/Blu-Ray player3) HDMI for new laptops that have HDMI output that will allow you to surf the Internet on your computer and view and listen to the output on your TV. I've used this to play episodes of missed TV programs from my local PBS website.4) HDMI one port to spare that I am sure will come in handy for something. The colors on this TV are really vivid, it makes you feel like you are right in the action! We also tried out the 3D feature and are very pleased with it.Adjustment for Watching Movies: My wife started complaining that this TV didn't play back the movies right! I didn't know what she was talking about. Looking back on the situation the best way to describe it is that all action on DVD playbacks looked artificially smooth, more like a smooth swan dance. I decided to research it and found out that this TV has a 240 Hz sampling rate to get rid of blurs on fast moving screen action. Well this 240 hz sampling up conversion apparently repeats frames and inserts new frames to accomplish what is does. The result is that the play back of movies from my DVD player didn't look right. In order to fix this go into Advanced picture settings and turn off the reduce motion blur feature and your movies will now play as they should.Second adjustment: Tired of that annoying lighted Vizio logo on the front of the TV? Go into picture settings and turn off the display of the Vizio logo! Now the logo comes on briefly when you turn the TV on and then goes off!Third adjustment: We have an Onkyo surround system that we previously used with our Sony LCD TV and everything was fine. The digital output of my Comcast cable box fed my Onkyo receiver and there never was a lipsync problem. The Vizio TV has a significant time delay such that I was experiencing lipsync problems when using my Onkyo surround sound with the Vizio. I tried several different adjustments within the TV, none of which provided a solution to the problem. Fortunately this TV has a digital optical output on the back of the TV. I fed the digital output of my Vizio TV directly to my Onkyo Surround sound and that resolved the lipsync problem once and for all! You also have the ability within the TV advance audio to select either PCM or Dolby output for the digital output stream.Update 11/8/12: The TV has average sound quality and sometimes it is hard to discern conversations, realize that this TV has only basic speakers... We recently moved to a smaller home, i.e. downsized. Rather than setup the Onkyo surround system with all the speakers and wires I decided to replace it with a Vizio VHT510 5.1 Surround Sound System with wireless subwoofer. What you get with this is a sound bar that you can place in front of the tv set and a subwoofer that goes behind your chair. The wireless subwoofer has built in connections for the back surround speakers so there are no wires in the ceiling or under the rug. You will need to purchase a fiber optic cable to connect the digital output of the TV to the optical input of the sound bar if you want the best audio connection. My wife is much happier that I got rid of all the speakers and wires laying around. All in all it is a nice addition to my Vizio TV. It's rated by Computer Reports as a recommended buy item. This system sounds nice and I am sure that Onyko is a much better surround sound system, but this is a much cleaner solution.Exiting 3D Mode: You can enter 3D mode by selecting the 3D button on the remote or from the on screen menu. The only way I was able to get out of the 3D mode was to shut the TV off. In order to exit 3D your supposed to select "2D Mode" from the menu options. To make it more user friendly the option should be labeled "Exit 3D mode".Remote control: Yes the remote control is small, but I don't use it as I have a Logitech Harmony One remote. At some point in time I may have to add an applet and will probably have to use the remote keyboard function which I have never used.Another advantage of using the Logitech Harmony Remote is that it has the ability to select the correct input when switching between modes. It selects the input source without having to cycle through all the inputs one at a time to get to the desired input!User manual: The user manual is located on the Vizio website. No need to print it as it can be downloaded and saved to your computer as a pdf file. This will allow you to access the user manual anytime you have a need to do so.Warranty considerations: Prior to making a Vizio purchase you may want to call Vizio or check their website for a list of authorized dealers, there are about 6 of them. Vizio will only honor a warranty claim if the item is purchased from an authorized dealer. To better understand Vizio warranty issues read the user reviews for the VIZIO VHT510 Surround Sound System.Would I buy this TV again? Yes, this TV was about $400 cheaper than other name brand TV's with the same feature set and I am very happy with it.

1We returned the set. 3D was unreliable.
By CenVillager
FINAL UPDATE:A problem surfaced regarding the 3D rendering. It started to work only occasionally. The 3D image failed to show 3D. The registration was off. The images could not sync together correctly to produce a 3D image. When the problem surfaced, I wasn't certain whose fault it was - the TV, or the Comcast signal, or the Motorola DVR box that fed the TV.On two occasions the set froze and even the manual buttons on the side of the TV failed to work. After unplugging the set and replugging into the electric, it rebooted. However the next time it happened I phoned Vizio Technical Support. She told me to once again unplug the set to reboot the computer in the TV. I did so and the 3D still failed to work. She said that the set "gets confused" by changing from 2D to 3D. She added that rebooting the set should've solved the issue but when even the rebooting failed it was time for them to send out a Service Technician to fix the TV.With only one week left in the Amazon trial period and with the realization that the software issue could easily recur anytime, I decided that the TV was so unreliable that it wasn't worth it. So we returned the set using Amazon's wonderful Return system. If it had been a hardware issue I could live with a quick repair, but software was a different matter. The Tech knew of no pending software updates to fix this issue.I have now ordered the Panasonic Viera 3D, TC-L47ET5 from Amazon.EARLIER COMMENTS:PROs:The picture is excellent, both regular TV and 3-D, after adjusting and tweaking the default settings. Picture quality and price are two big reasons for buying a particular brand of TV. Considering the reasonable price, this Vizio TV is a bargain.3D:The 3D is amazing. The screen disappears and becomes a window you are looking through. Not only that but in some scenes objects appear to be floating in front of the TV, by as much as 30 inches! Incredible! Great job, Vizio! Can't wait for the X-Games and the Olympics, both in 3D this year.CONs:My cons are mainly annoyances and things requiring getting used to.Several are what I consider design defects by Vizio. The Remote:The keys are tiny. Definitely not suitable for anyone with large fingers. The entire remote measures 2" X 6". The section with the keys on the front measures 2" X 4", not much room for all the keys on it.The "3D" key is almost lost at the bottom of the number keys instead of being prominent like the "V" key. The 3D key is nearly impossible to find in the dark as the keys are not backlit.I wonder if the word "Vizio" is adapted from a word meaning "Patience." There is a very slow response time between key press and TV reaction. Before I realized this I pressed keys too quickly and the TV froze up. The keys failed to respond and even the manual buttons on the side of the TV failed to respond. I had to unplug the TV to get it to reboot. I have since learned patience.User Guide:Starts you off with internet settings, rather than TV.Not printed. The startup guide is marginally useful. The in-depth operational details are in the online manual (not even a CD provided) and require the user to download and print out the manual. You would think that considering the cost of the TV they would spend the nominal amount to give you a printed manual. The manual refers to a TV mode of "Sensio" but fails to explain what it is.TV:Do not be concerned if the initial TV picture color looks, well, awful. This TV requires much fine tuning through many levels of submenus to get decent color. I enjoy playing with settings and submenus so it was an enjoyable experience for me. Non-techies will have a harder time.It is very disappointing that the TV fails to recognize which type of 3D is incoming. There are two flavors of 3D signal, "above and below" or "side by side". This requires the user to go to the 3D menu and select the correct 3D source. A tedious four step process considering how slowly the TV responds to each key press. Then when you want to return to 2D TV you must go through the process again. A quicker method not found in the manual is to locate and press the tiny 3D key at the bottom left of the alphabet. I am hoping that Vizio will come up with a software enhancement that can recognize the type of 3D signal. This TV is definitely not "Instant On". It is "Press and Wait". When you turn on the TV it takes several seconds for even the Vizio logo to light up, then an additional approximately 15 seconds for a picture to appear.Be aware that on some key pressed the screen will go black. Not to worry. It is working on your key press and will eventually bring the picture back with your change. It would be helpful if there were an onscreen icon of some sort showing that the TV is working, such as that little moving circle that PCs use to communicate "working".Internet Ready:This TV is internet ready. It accepts either a wireless or wired internet connection. There are several apps that are preloaded on the TV. Many more are available. Many of the apps require a paid subscription to an internet provider. You can do streaming video or movies easily once the connection is made. YouTube is free. There is no internet browser app, nor an email app. I will miss both. The largest button on the remote, the "V" key, connects you to the app display. I have enough movies through my Comcast DVR that I won't use this much, but it does work. The wireless antenna is robust inasmuch as my router is some distance away from the set and although my PC sometimes has trouble getting the signal at that distance, the TV has no such trouble. One design deficiency IMHO is that the V internet button is huge while the 3D button is tiny. Both should be at least the same size. It is annoying that the button I don't use is right there while I have to search for the 3D button. The reverse of the remote is a full keyboard. Super convenient for use with the internet apps.Packaging:The packaging of the TV is excellent. Styrofoam sections are cut out and framed to support the TV without it touching the sides of the sturdy box. You should save the box in case you need to ship the TV somewhere for service (or to return to Amazon). My suggestion is to take notes, or better yet, pictures, as you remove the styrofoam pieces and the TV from the box so that you will be able to repackage the set correctly.CONCLUSION:I bought this TV rather than another make I was interested in because of Amazon's excellent offer of free shipping and a 30 day trial and free return shipping if I am not satisfied with it. I didn't know if 3D TV would be worth it so this was a no risk way to try it out.We are getting used to the idiosyncrasies of the TV. I gave this TV four stars because of them. If the remote were better it would rate five stars. So we will happily keep the TV, unless, of course, something bad happens in the three weeks remaining in my trial period. If I return it for some as yet unknown reason, I will update this review.REVIEW UPDATE 6/29/2012:We are halfway through our 30 day trial of this TV.The picture continues to be excellent, both regular and 3D. Our new record for the distance an object appears to be floating in front of the screen stands at four feet!We have gotten used to the "annoyances" I mentioned earlier. It didn't take long. Now using the remote is automatic and even the time delays are no longer noticeable.I have learned a shortcut method for changing the TV modes, from 2D to 3D. Instead of using the cumbersome "Menu" button, I place my finger on the smooth empty space at the bottom of the remote and slide the finger up to the tiny 3D key at the bottom left of the numbers pad. Then repeated presses of the 3D key and a tap of the "OK" key switches between modes. So unless something unexpected happens during the remainder of the trial, this TV is here to stay. If need be I will update this review.

5Everything is great so far
By 12watch
This my first HDTV. I spent a lot of time reading customer reviews and comparing prices. I finally settled on this tv because I wanted 3d (not so much for now, but figuring it was the wave of the future and I wanted a tv that would have the feature three years from now) and CNET gave it a very good rating (there weren't that many reviews out on the product yet). Vizio did get good reviews on its other 47" LCD 3d TV (E3D470VX) so I figured this tv would be just as good, but with 240 HZ instead of 120 HZ.I was originally going to get it from Sam's Club because it was $50 dollars cheaper there; however, Amazon has the low price guarantee. So I ordered it from Amazon. I had to email them a day after it arrived to ask about the guarantee because there was no "lower cost" button that I could see on the order page. There was no hassle in having them credit me the lower price and Sam's Club had reduced it another $50. So, besides getting the same price as Sam's Club, I saved sales tax ($50).I ordered it on a Monday morning. I have Prime so I had free 2 day delivery; however, for $3.99 more they offered next day delivery. The tv was delivered Tuesday afternoon. Set up was a breeze. Basically, all I needed to do was screw 8 screws in to attach the base to the tv and it was ready to go (the power cord was even plugged into the back). I plugged the coaxial cable into the tv, turned it on and it went into set up mode. A quick start booklet does come with the tv which was very helpful and I downloaded the user manual from Vizio for future reference.I have had absolutely no problems with the tv. The picture looks great (I also connected the tv through my cable box and the HDMI connection). I was surprised when I hooked it up originally just through the coax cable that all the local channels also had HD signals. Of course, through the cable box I know have full access to all HD channels. I connected it to the internet (very easy to do) and connected the facebook app and also an app for my local tv channel website. I am a little disappointed that the web pages don't come up full screen (they only use about 25% of the left side of the tv). Maybe I am just missing a setting.I did plug a thumb drive into the USB port with a movie I had downloaded from the internet. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked on the tv.My major disappointment is that it doesn't seem as if the remote is programmable so that I can add my cable box to it. That would have been nice.I believe my cable provider does offer streaming 3d movie. If they do, I will update this review. As of now, I believe for the money, this was a great purchase!

5Very happy with this tv.
By L. Hoover
I have had this set, Sharp Aquos LC-70LE745U 70-inch 3D, for 1 week now, and am very pleased with it. I had read many reviews on the AVS and other forums about the pros/cons of lcd sets so I was prepared for the possible "worst" before getting this set. Things like "dirty screen effect" "banding" "flashlighting" "clouding" and motion blurring are all known problems with edge lit lcd technology. This tv replaced a 4 year old 52" Sony Bravia which had noticeable clouding. I am happy to say that my eyes do not detect any noticeable problems of this nature with this Sharp 70" set. The picture is great! The black areas are much more black and distinct than my old Sony and they rival a 40" plasma set I have in the bedroom. The sound is so,so but that is normal for this type tv. I hook mine to a Zvox sound bar with a Sony subwoofer.I did not buy this tv for it's 3d capability but have used it and it is ok. As I've seen in many reports, so called 3d cross-talk causes blurring and double images at the perimeter of some screen shots. This set was the same price as a 2011 2d model on close-out at Sams at the time I ordered it. So, I felt like the 3d was just an added feature for virtually no additional charge. Also, the Sharp website and Amazon list this tv as having AquoMotion 240, but it DOES NOT. It is a 120mhz capable set, and I have looked at fast moving sports (NHL, NBA) with this on and off and I do not see objectionable blurring. I had downloaded and reviewed the manual (on Sharp website) prior to purchase and thus was not expecting AquoMotion 240 and not having it is no problem at all for me. I could see this being a point of contention for some people though. Amzaon and Sharp had best get their marketing info corrected. My set was sold by Paul's TV/fulfilled by Amazon, which meant free delivery and a 30 day paid return policy. It was shipped by ABF from Arizona to south GA, and arrived when promised and undamaged. In summary, I would highly recommend this tv to anyone looking for a set this size. It is awesome; my wife and I are very pleased with it and the buying experience from Amazon/Paul's tv.

4At this price I should LOVE it...but I don't quite. Still pretty good though
By FreeSpirit
I did extensive research before deciding to go with this Sharp 70-inch TV. The other options I considered were the Samsung 65-inch and the 70-inch Smart TV's, both of which were significantly more expensive (65-inch was $3100 and a little small for my living room wall, and 75-inch was an insane $9k, compared to this Sharp for $2399). Price and size were major deciding factors for me.For the most part, the TV is a great choice. The picture quality is great, setting it up wirelessly was a breeze (took no more than 5 minutes), connection to Netflix is easy (the remote has a dedicated Netflix button that connects directly to Netflix), and I was able to mount it comfortably on the Sanus mount that I had previously for my Samsung 55-inch TV. It has plenty of HDMI and AV ports on the back to connect several devices. I have it set up through an AV receiver, so only the receiver connects to this TV and all other devices run through the receiver. When installing, note that the HDMI ports are slightly set to the inside, so before pressing the TV flat when mounting, remember to connect the HDMI cable first and then press the TV flat against the wall. Just a convenient mounting tid-bit.I haven't bought the 3D glasses yet but I have read that you can use only Sharp 3D glasses with this TV. One neat feature is that it allows you to watch 3D but viewers can choose whether they want to watch in 2D (no glasses) or 3D (with glasses). Not sure if I'll be getting 3D glasses, there just doesn't seem to be a lot of 3D content to make the additional expenditure worthwhile. Just my personal preference.Another great aspect is that the screen has a more matte finish to it which reflects a LOT less light compared to my previous Samsung TV which reflected a rainbow of colors if the lights were on in the room. The faded reflection is more noticeable when the TVs are powered off, Sharp scores a point over Samsung here. When you first power this baby on, you will definitely be blown away by the sheer awesomeness of this TV and the screen, I think it's the size that makes it a phenomenal experience. This is one device where size most definitely does matter!Speakers are very average, but then I doubt manufacturers these days focus much on the speakers or surround sound. Picture quality, slim form factor, and connectivity are what seem to be the focus for most manufacturers. I have this connected to an external sound system, so it is a non-issue for me.Now maybe I'm just being trivial, or maybe I expected the absolute best at this price, but the picture quality of this TV falls short of a Samsung. Pictures feel just a little muted, I guess "softer" would be the more appropriate term. It's still pretty good and I'm sure its a full 1080p, but it's just not as...well, sharp! The Samsung that I had earlier was also a 120Hz, same as this one, so I know I'm comparing apples to apples, but the image on the Samsung was far more crisp and rich. I went crazy the first day trying to adjust the picture quality thinking maybe I just had to set up correctly. But sadly the picture quality is still muted compared to the Samsung. Maybe the matte finish screen is what is causing this. It's also possible that the 70-inch screen size compared to my previous 55-inch Samsung is what is making the difference. I haven't been able to compare this with the 75-inch Samsung which would be the true test.Again, this TV is great for what it is and the features/picture quality/functionality that it packs, and I would recommend this highly if you're looking for a 70-inch TV. But if Samsung made this size in a reasonable price range, even if it was a few hundred dollars more than the Sharp, I would buy that in a heartbeat.UPDATE 12-24-12Another reviewer has mentioned this issue and I have now experienced it three times in the last week - the unit shuts itself off and turns back on for no apparent reason. No clue why this happened but if it continues, it will be frustrating to say the least. Another issue - I use a Logitech universal remote and don't need to use the tv remote. However, every other week I get a message on the tv asking if I want to update the tv software. I updated the first time, but then it happened again after a week. If Sharp is updating software so often, I have no interest updating it each time. I can't use the universal remote to make the dialogue box go away, so I have to go into the closet to dig out the tv remote. None of this has ever happened with the Samsung that we have had for several years now. If this continues, I will have to disconnect it from the wireless network and use Apple TV for Netflix and online connectivity. Will be pointless having a wireless enabled tv in this case.UPDATE 01-18-13I had bought this directly from Amazon (not a third party) and saw no mention of a promotion on this TV at the time of purchase. However, I received an email last week that they had credited $48 to my account as part of a HDTV promotion they had at time of purchase. Something you may want to look at when buying this TV, always good to unexpectedly get cash back!Question (2-1-13) - every few weeks the tv shows a software update notification. I can't select yes/no with the universal remote, so I need to fetch the tv remote from the closet. Inconvenient to say the least. Can't figure out how to turn this software update notification off so that the message doesn't appear again. Any help would be much appreciated.

5Best large LCD on the market, tried and tested!
By Sethmatics Inc.
Incredible picture, apps work great, built-in wireless hooked up fast and easy. Netflix button makes streaming shows fast and easy. Weighs like 25% less then my previous 65" sharp (LED's are lighter!) Audio out (for my wireless headphones) fails with HDMI in, which is weird cause it worked fine on my previous sharp... will have to play with the settings some more.Be careful ordering 3D glasses for this TV. Not all glasses work. I called sharp and they only said to "buy the Sharp glasses"http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-AN3DG20B-Glasses-Black-Single/dp/B005JABSB6/Yea, I think I'll try a few more glasses before I do that. Specifically I'm going to try these:EDIT - DO NOT BUY THESE GLASSES, THEY DO NOT WORK WITH THE TV. 2012 MODELS REQUIRE NEWER GLASSES.EDIT - 10/2/2012 - Glasses are now working with 2012 TV's! YAY! Haven't tested myself by seller said they work together.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JDVM54Also, do NOT mount this with the 65" Cheetah mount, that did not work out well. Spend the extra money and buy a nicer mount that will properly allow you to mount and rotate your TV without feeling like its about to fall off the wall. I'd suggest:http://www.amazon.com/Sanus-Systems-XF228-B1-42-Inch-Full-Motion/dp/B002JBCYSO/Don't forget you need 3D compatible A/V Receiver (Yamaha A810), HDMI v1.4 cables, and a 3D Player of some sort (PS3 / 3D BlueRay Player). Seriously though, I went and demo'd all the TV's between Costco and Fry's Electronics and this baby is the best bang for your buck.2 MONTHS IN UPDATEI wanted to note that I've had my TV for a couple of months now and I STILL LOVE IT. It has more awesomeness then I originally thought.- new 3D system and glasses give viewers the option to watch 3D movies in 2D so each viewer can decide how they want to watch the TV (2D/3D).- HDMI 1.4 ARC and CinemaLink (AquosLink as they call it) allows you to have 1 HDMI cable that allows you to control volume on your receiver through the HDMI cable, and also the ARC allows you to pass an audio feed back to your receiver. Why is that cool? Well, NetFlix is built into the TV, but how do you get the sound from Netflix back to your receiver for surround sound? HDMI ARC is the answer. If you have a receiver that supports HDMI 1.4, it should also support ARC, so your NetFlix from the TV will still sound great through your full surround sound system....wondering what else the TV does that I haven't even learned about yet! Still looking into DLNA so that I can stream movies from my computer to the TV but haven't tested it yet, also, they have a DIVx registration system so the TV is allowed to decode and play DIVx encoded movies from a flash drive. Yep, the TV can play mkev format 1080P movies just by plugging in a flash drive to the TV. Amazing, this TV has it all.

Product Description

3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A DisplayFirst, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A SourceYour display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D GlassesFor now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

5Near Perfection
By TheBigB
I've had this beast of a plasma for about a month now and I am truly still being blown away. Like other reviewers, I was on the fence about Panasonic versus Samsung. I also wanted something OVER 60 inches, and plasma was the way to go to keep costs reasonable. It was either a Panasonic VT65 or GT65 or the Samsung D8000 or D7000. I read countless point and counterpoint discussions on the AVForum site for months...And when I saw a great deal on this 64D8000 I jumped on it and am totally pleased with my choice.PICTURE: Unbelievable.. Out of the box, it was amazing. Midnight blacks and bright clean whites.. I mean watching the Boston Bruins play in the Stanley Cup was the first thing I saw when I had this on...the black shirts contrasted against the white ice was amazing. Close ups of the Bruins uniforms looked like the TV was powered off on that part of the screen. Really great. Blu-rays of course looked even better. Again the blacks stood out and colors really popped...TRON: Legacy looked UN-believable!!! Just when I thought I'd seen it all, I went into advanced options in the menu and entered a professional calibration result from a tester on AVForum. It took awhile entering in all those R G B settings, but it was totally worth it. (Saved me a couple hundred I'm sure) After my "calibration", I saw the true power of this Samsung. The colors came alive. And the contrast and flesh tones became more realistic. Blacks were inky (definitely a popular but very true word to describe these blacks) and even darker than before! So, before I thought the picture was amazing, but now it was near perfection! I honestly can't see how even the wildly popular, overpriced Panasonic VT series can beat this...(according to CNet reviews, they BARELY edge out this tv in picture quality). But you won't be disappointed with this Samsung. I'm no TV expert but I've had lots of HDTVs the last decade, and keep up with the latest. Plasmas aren't going away anytime soon... This is a big, bright, beautiful beast. Even more beautiful if you calibrate it, or "calibrate" it on your own.DESIGN: Very nice looking, when turned off. The dark titanium bezel is attractive (darker than the picture shown here on Amazon) with a nice glass edge to give it that classy look. The stand, I agree, is kind of ugly with it's chrome spider legs..but you gotta hang this thing anyway. This thing is meant to hang on the wall. Its surprisingly thin for a 64-inch plasma. The screen is a bit reflective so it looks nice when it's off, but plan accordingly if you want this in a room with lots of windows. The reflections will be noticeable. The remote has a nice Qwerty keypad for entering text, and I actually like it's flip design...although that keypad should light up! It's useless in the dark. There is an app to use on a smartphone that I have yet to try.3D: I've only watched Directv 3D channels, so I haven't gotten a lot of 3D experience yet (no Blu-ray 3D yet either even though I'm ready for it). What I have watched is nice. I got two free pairs of battery powered glasses and one rechargeable pair that I paid for extra. The 3D is fun to watch and clear in HD. It is still a gimmick in my book, and I can only watch so much of it before I get annoyed. Bottom line, 3D on this tv looks good (dimmer, but still clear and nice) but I bought this for its 2D picture... 3D is nice to have though, and I'm looking forward to trying out a 3D Blu-ray sometime soon..SMART TV: Like the 3D feature this is nice. But not necessary in my book. I still use a computer for Internet features and YouTube videos, not my TV. That being said, I think the layout of this Internet connectivity is nice and smooth. Not as smooth as a computer or iPad but it works well enough. And it has built in wifi, so I had to try it out. I was impressed, and I have occasionally gone back to this for sports scores or a YouTube video once in awhile. Samsung has done better than I would have guessed with this "Smart TV" thing...I imagine some people, not myself really, will get a lot of use out of this..NEGATIVES: okay, so this not perfect. There are a couple things I will point out that people will surely notice. First is the reflective screen. I notice it even in my window-less downstairs room when lights are on and the scene on TV is dark... This TV is meant to be viewed in a darkened room with minimal light. Second, if you've read up on plasmas then you've heard about "buzzing". Apparently, Samsung has had buzzing issues before. I tried to notice this right away but couldn't. Then during a quiet scene of a movie, I sat dead center in front of this tv and happened to turn my head away from the screen and heard it. Now, to be clear, this is not a loud "buzzing" sound and I'm not even complaining about it, but if you are dead center in front of the TV in a quiet scene and you turn your head (directing your ear towards the screen) AND you listen for it, you can hear an ever-so-faint "ticking" sound. I can't imagine many people would complain but I know some will... And lastly, again if you've read up on this model, you may hear about the anti-glare screen coating peeling away on the top corners. I have to say, that my two top corners are just BARELY peeling (or not completely sticking) at the tips.. It was like this when I got it and it doesn't even reach the actual picture or affect it in any way, so again I'm not complaining and I'm not messing with it. But if it happens to get any worse I would certainly be calling Samsung on this known issue. As it is now, it doesn't hinder my high opinion of this TV and is only noticeable if you get real close and look.OVERALL: I got this for a big, bold, picture and solid design and I'm not disappointed in the least. Blu-rays are unreal! Sports look better than I could have imagined. And 3D and SMART TV features are a nice occasional option. And despite those couple flaws which do NOT directly bother me at all, this is near perfection. 9.5 out of 10 from me.

5Could not be happier
By coselect
My wife and I just purchased the pn51d8ooo about a week ago from Paul's TV. I would have bet that we were going to walk out of the store with a led/lcd model. The salesman was extremely helpful with explaining the attributes of the models we were considering. He eventually steered us towards this model for consideration. It seemed strange to me that since they work on commission at this store he would try to sell us on the plasma (less expensive than the comparable led/lcd), it soon became clear that this salesman (Nick)not only knew what he was talking about but wanted us to get the best product for the money. This model is more full featured than anything else out there. It has full web browsing capabilities (yes, that's right - you can actually surf the net, buy from ebay or Amazon, google anything etc., etc.) There is a built in wireless card unlike all of the others we saw which required you to buy a dongle or other accessory. The picture in the showroom was awesome. Although not as brightly lit as the led models, the colors seemed more natural to me. the blacks were richer (when viewing from an angle the led blacks turned more gray than black). We paid $2,069.00 which included the starter 3D kit (two pair of glasses and five 3D movies). The remote is awesome, a standard tv remote on one side but flip it over and you have a full qwerty keyboard and other keys which make internet surfing so much easier. I do have to say that my wife was concerned that we would not like the plasma as much as we would have liked the intense brightness of the led model. After getting the TV home we took a few days to set it up because we were waiting on a new console stand. I took that time to run a network ethernet cable to the tv location (wired is always faster and more reliable than wireless, but I'm sure that the wireless signal would have worked fine). Set-up was a breeze, stand mounts to tv easily, switching between apps, tv, and internet was very intuitive. We were concerned that we might need to have the tv picture calibrated (as recommended by other stores for $199.00 additional), but were thrilled with the picture right out of the box. There are four picture modes (Dynamic, standard, movie and relax), we are using dynamic which is extremely close to the brightness of the led models. The sound is more than adequate for us. With the wired internet, the set took literally 30 seconds to connect successfully. The netflix problems that I have read in one or two other reviews must have been resolved because I have not had even one glitch. The apps are great but there is a bit of a quirky apps account registration you have to get through. All in all we are extremely happy with our purchase. I haven't tried the 3D yet but it has full 3D and I'm sure we will love it when more 3D titles are available. Hope this long winded review helps. p.s. We purchased the five year service agreement just to have the peace of mind that it offers, we had a smaller lcd previously that we had to have repaired and it was a bit expensive.

5After years of dragging feet, this TV made me JUMP to HD...
By Nathaniel Allen
...although I should thank Amazon Warehouse for first sending me a busted-up 50" version of last year's C8000 or I may never have experienced the awesomeness of the 59" D8000!The great (and exhaustive) information at AVSFourm lead me to this beauty, which I purchased from BuyDig due to Amazon Warehouse hanging me up on a C8000 replacement, and then Amazon taking forever to get the new 2011 Samsungs into inventory and listed for sale. I've got mine paired up with a Samsung BD-D6700 3D Blu-ray Player using AmazonBasics High Speed HDMI Cable. I wall mounted the set with a Sanus Vlt14-B1 Super-Slim Tilt Mount bracket. I'm using Samsung's SSG-3100GB 3D Glasses that came as part of the Shrek/Megamind 3D Starter Kit, which was included as a promotional item with this set.Regarding picture quality: - Simply outstanding. Crisp definition. True colors that aren't overly bright or artificial. Inky black blacks. - No ghosting or shadows. Great with fast action and camera panning. Haven't tried video games. - No sign of jutter or film effect; the high refresh rate makes any motion smooth and realistic, especially noticeable in-store when comparing this side-by-side with a lower refresh TV. - Not so hot as a PC monitor with respect to reading tiny text.If you're worried about the size possibly being too big: - I thought I was pushing my luck after my wife commented that the broken 50" C8000 that showed up at our front door (but was never mounted) looked "too big." And I'll admit, this 59" TV is huge, but once we sat back to enjoy it, I don't know how we suffered (*cough, cough*) with out 32" Trinitron tube for the past 14 years. - With whatever up-convert happens between our DVD player and the TV itself, standard definition movies still look fine on this set. No, they're not as amazingly crystal clear as high-def Blu-ray content, but they're not at all blocky as I had expected. - You will want to take advantage of any HD cable, satellite or over-the-air broadcasts you might have available. Standard definition television picture quality will make you crazy after knowing the cleanliness of HD. (In our case, we're sticking with Comcast's most basic service but added their converter box, and are paying them about $28 per month.) - The VESA mounting pattern on the back is 800mm x 600mm, the largest size the Sanus mount I linked to supports. It's probably worth checking that whatever mount you select is compatible with this pattern.3D movies on this set are simply outstanding. So far, I've only got the Shrek discs that came with Samsung's starter kit to view, though I've got a couple more on the way. The big screen gives a really perceptible depth effect when viewed from my normal sitting position approximately 10 feet away. But we have a wide room and even from viewing angles of 45° the effect is still present with only very minor drop-offs in color and brightness (the picture noticeably dims once the 3D glasses are powered on, especially when the room is bright).3D setup and playback is a cinch -- the sync signal is bluetooth, so each pair of glasses needs to be paired the first time used. Pairing involves nothing more than turning the glasses on, and since the bluetooth signal is bi-directional, the television recognizes when the glasses are activated and provides a brief pop-up indication in the lower left corner saying so.After that initial setup, inserting a 3D disk and pressing play is all that's required to get the show going. The TV even automatically powers on and switches to the correct input when I power up my Samsung player and insert a disk.During the day I've watched my movies with the bright overhead lights on, and daylight lighting the room through two large windows. The anti-reflective coating on the screen is excellent! There's no apparent glare, and the brightness of the screen even at the factory setting (if I recall correctly, it's initially set at brightness level 48) is more than enough overcome this ambient light, without washing out the deep, dark black levels. (The 3D glasses reflect lighted surfaces located directly behind my head; in this case a darker room is preferred lest I need to fashion side-shades for the glasses.) In a dark room, the picture is simply jaw-dropping.Even the built-in speakers of this set do an adequate job of getting the sound out. Fine in a pinch, but I think you'll agree it's no match for amping the audio through an AV receiver to external speakers (in our case, a Denon AVR-3311CI which supports HDMI 1.4a and 3D pass-through.)Samsung's QWERTY remote is really a huge leap forward from a standard numeric remote, but is slow and slightly awkward in use. The two-sided remote resembles a conventional numbers-only device on one side, beaming our traditional infrared signals. The keyboard side takes advantage of the D8000's bluetooth, and is therefore only compatible with the television, and not the Samsung DVD player, nor any other device. The keyboard side of the remote even has a usable thumb sensor -- sort of like a track pad on a Blackberry or a thumb control on a laptop keyboard -- allowing easy cursor navigation of the built-in web browser and applications. However, try as they might, the remote + SmartTV web apps still leave a bit to be desired when compared to a PC interface. For instance, sites like Hulu and NBC won't play Flash video (which I was aware of prior to purchase). So instead, I connect my laptop via Siig's USB to HDmi adapter to watch broadcast TV shows, and will switch to a PC with a HDMI-out video card sometime in the future. The television's Netflix capabilities are solid. My one gripe is that once I locate and begin watching a movie, but then pause it and return to finish it on a different day, it has taken me quite a bit of searching to re-find it. But once I do, it resumes where I left off, and all of the expected pause, fast forward and rewind functions work as expected. However, once inside the Netflix app, I'm locked out of accessing the television's menu, so I lose the ability to adjust picture (and audio, if using the TV speakers). There are a number of redundant SmartTV features between the television and my Samsung DVD player, and if it were truly "smart," might it not somehow combine these Samsung web apps so that I'm only dealing with one Netflix, one YouTube, one browser, etc.? Because it sure would be nice to use the QWERTY remote on everything, including Pandora, which (I believe) isn't available as an application on the television. As it is, each application has its own login process, with the Netflix process being quite different from Pandora or YouTube, for instance. The YouTube app needs improvement. It doesn't make use of the remote's QWERTY keypad, and instead requires the user to use the cursor buttons to scroll around the on-screen virtual keyboard to conduct a video search. Instead, I use the TV's built-in web browser to access YouTube, which works pretty well, even in full-screen mode. The most desirable part of the Facebook app would be the photo viewer, which for some inexplicable reason won't take advantage of the full screen size -- even for photos that were uploaded at full resolution. This makes showing off baby and vacation pictures a bit of a yawner. The photos tend to be small and a little washed out, though easy to navigate between albums. The rest of the Facebook application is cumbersome to navigate, read and update, and never seems to fully load. One last comment, regarding some criticism I've read regarding the television's silver bezel: it really isn't a stand-out issue. In a dark room, you'll never see it. In a lighted room, it doesn't pop out to me like it does in the product shots shown here and on other sites. It really is a flat finish that doesn't reflect back a whole lot of light, it blends nicely with the glass overlay, and isn't something I'm ever conscious of.Samsung has put together a really nice television here at an attractive price, packed with lots of features and a stunning picture. I simply can't imagine anything to complain about and enthusiastically recommend anyone looking to check one of these out at a local electronics store to be wowed by its brilliance.
