5Great TV for Price!
By A. Payne
If you want the short version just skip to the 2nd paragraph.Alright this is my first review on something so here goes. I spent months, yes months trying to find the best TV for my money. I read all the review on all the different tv's. Heard all the rumors about "shadowing" on the LCD's and short life span on the plasmas. I went to all the different stores to check them out. The size of tv I was shopping for was around 50". I wanted the Pioneer plasma but too much $$$. So it was between Sony Bravia (120hz), Panasonic Plasma, or mitsubishi. When i was at the store i really couldn't tell a diffence between the Sony and the Mitsubishi (Diamond). Both looked like great TV's, both about the same price, within $100 of each other. Well i saw this mitsubish 144 Series that was much cheaper than the Mitsubish 244 (diamond) series. I went to their website to see the difference. There were a few things different such as; weight, speakers, tint adjuster. Nothing that seemed worth the $700-$800 difference. So i decided to make the purchase. There were no reviews on this specific tv yet so i took a gamble on it. I didnt think it was much of a gamble since its about the same as the diamond. The shipping took a little longer than i wanted, 2 weeks, although it was shipped from east coast (PA) to west coast, then to UT (normal shipping route).Got the TV set it up to my DTV (NOT HD). The picture was pretty bad, but i figured it was because it was not HD. Played a dvd, (480i, Not upconverter) pretty bad still. so i went and bought an upconverter, the picture was much better, but not as i would like. So i called amazon and asked them how big of a hassel would it be to return tv, they said non at all. But before returning it i was going to do one more test. My friend has dtv HD and an xbox 360 1080P. So the wife helped me load it up in the truck (GIT-R-DUN) for one final test. I first tested it out on the XBOX and it was amazing, even standing close. I was still a little skeptical so we tried the DTV HD, my friend said some channels are better than others with the HD picture so he turned it to the discovery channel and it was awesome. So conclusion, Its a great TV. You do have to tweek the brightness and contrast a little but its an awesome picture! BUT.... yes the speakers on the tv are terrible, it sounds like its being projected through a tin can. I'm sure some LCD tv are better than others when it comes to speakers but i think for the most part its due to the fact that they try to hide the speakers on the tv. Its not a big deal though, i planned on using my home speakers anyways. I would have given it a 4.5 stars due to the speakers but for the money this is a 5 star value.

3Mitsubisui 52" LCD
By John Hanlon
Before buying the Mitsubishi I went to a couple of local stores to see what kind of picture it had. I was impressed by what I saw. However, what I saw was the television with a 1080i broadcast. When I got it home and put it on to the cable box the 1080i shows were very good, but anything less then that has a severe pixel breakup on the edges of any moving object. This is more visable the closer to the screen you are. Get back 10' and it is not as bad. Out of the box it is set up with the color set to a very bright level. You will have to do a bit of tweeking to get the picture to be as good as it can be. Once it is set up, and you get back a few feet, it is a good looking TV.

5This TV is great and ahead of its time.
By T. Cruz
Great TV. The Non-Glossy screen while not as pretty as the Samsung's functions excellent in a room with a lot of windows. The picture is great particularly when watching CARS in 1080i; although the Miss USA pageant was never so enjoyable as it is in HD. When it gets a good signal (non-broadcast 1080) I never see any pixelation or blurring in really fast motion otherwise the picture is always perfect (Broadcast and On Demand (the latter usually having the best quality)).What is particularly important is until Comcast gets more channels in HD, this TV makes SD (480) look great too. An added bonus is while a tad deeper than most flat screens at nearly 6 inches, you can get a lot of screen when more limited by width and height; and if you are going 1080, you are probably going to want the screen closer to you any way so an inch more depth is no problem (Most 52" TVs are nearly 54" wide while this one is only 48")Only complaints are: 1) the HDMI ports on the back are hard to access if you are using thick monster cable. If you get a less thick cable, no problem. 2) The screen doesn't tilt forward and back on its base (but does swivel to face more left or right); if you are wall mounting I suppose that doesn't matter.Great TV and amazing for the current price.

5Wow!! I am so happy with this purchase!
By B. Flamenco
Ok, please bear with me .. I love TV's and the latest gadgets .. I am not a professional and my review is more from a personal point of view.My TV arrived yesterday, replacing the Panasonic VT50 65".. While the VT50 was a stunning display, it was only that way with HD content and in the dark. When in the dark, that tv blew me away, however during the day and watching older TV shows.. I was just not impressed. I was looking for a TV that I look at any time and feel really good about. This one really does the trick, even though it is 10" smaller .. I am so pleased with my decision to swap TVs spending the same amount of money.I have never owned a Sony before, the Samsung 8000 was too gimmicky for me.. (I am not going to start talking to my TV or hand gesturing in front of it.. not to mention all the reviews posted)This model to me is the perfect for my home. I LOVE the display.. bright, crisp.. just a joy to look at.A few things that I tried to find out about this TV (before my purchase) that I could not locate anywhere are as follows: (hope it helps)*You can use the following model of 3D Glasses: TDG-BR750, BR250, BR200, BR100, BR50, Playstation 3D Glasses.*Minimal Glare (compared to VT50)*Quality sturdy stand, swivels and tilts*Wireless function works very well and is easy to set up.Bottom line.. I am much happier with this purchase!! While the VT50 has such a high rating, It was not a tv for me.. It has great reviews but if you look at the amount of used units offered by Amazon, I think I am not alone. (I mentioned the VT50 in my review, because many people out there seem to want to know how it compares to this model)I will be adding to this post as I try out more features such as 3D etc..Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.. I am happy to reply.****edit same day as post 8:09pmI have had a chance to give 3D a thorough test, watching Hugo and the Avengers. I am still impressed! The Colors, Black Level, and clarity are fantastic.. In my opinion 3D is more enjoyable on this TV than what I remember from the movies.I also tested 2D to 3D conversion, it creates a bit of depth and enhances the viewing experience. Even in daylight, the 2D to 3D conversion worked nicely.

5Viewing experience on another level
By Paul M.
I am giving this television 5 stars even though I am currently waiting on a replacement unit from Amazon because of several bright red pixels in the middle of the screen. Like always, Amazon was top notch with delivery, customer service, and response...handing this issue quickly and with no drama. The new replacement TV is expected to arrive tomorrow and this time when I power it up at delivery, I will open to Sony Home menu (full graphic screen) which obviously shows the pixel flaws. Yes packing it back up will be a hassle but well worth the final result. This picture is by the far the best I have ever seen on an LCD and I have seen many. Currently we have 4 other Sony XBR LCD TV's of different ages and sizes and there is no comparison to this new model. This XBR55HX950 will replace a Pioneer Elite Pro 530HD rear projection TV (nearly 10 years old and still kicking); which says a lot because the Pioneer is fabulous but getting dated and many possible replacements have come and gone once compared beside this TV.In general, after quick calibration and tweaking the XBR55HX950 picture is approaching the level of our dedicated home theater(OPPO BDP-95 BluRay, Anthem Statement D2 processor, JVC Reference Series projector, Stewart 110" Studiotek 130 G3 screen). This Sony's white levels, black levels, and contrast are stunning and gone are the common LCD dragged jerky motion images...this TV is fast and smooth displaying motion. The black is so black that in a completely dark room, the screen light showing black between commercials is virtually undetectable. We are displaying Blu-Rays with the Sony BDPS790 which is a great player and very convenient with the HDMI link control. I cannot comment on 3D performance, as we did not buy this TV for 3D as I consider it too gimmicky and fake looking irregardless of how it is presented. I may borrow some glasses from a friend so our children can check it out, but that is not a priority. Also, regarding our children they already have figured out the menu system, switching between sources, playing Netflix, and playing Blu-Rays...they are tech savvy for 6 and 7 years old.The color depth and edge detail is spot on and sharp looking with displayed images so real and natural. Our children were watching a movie with a bright white Maltese dog via Netflix streaming and they even commented on how white this dog was and how its hair was so real looking...a difficulty for LCD's displaying white. It does take a little tweaking of the settings and there are quite a few settings but I like Sony's menu system. I do still feel that with more involved TV menus Sony should adapt the format of a webpage explorer bar [like their website]with main features across the top, multiple drop downs, and use the Return button for Back. The networking setup, Netflix, Amazon Prime videos, and DLNA worked flawless and all our videos [AVCHD), pictures, and music came through from our QNAP NAS Twonky Server with no issues. The file interface could certainly be improved with features such as Play All, Select particular videos to play or pictures to display, and image thumbnails (think about something like the excellent PC and tablet interface for SONOS for those who know it). The OPPO has a little better interface in this direction. The i-Manual is great...it is about time this convenient feature is there for quick reference of features particular for those not so technically experienced and it can be updated as the firmware changes. To sum things up, I highly recommend this television, but if you need something bigger perhaps wait for the 65" model which will be coming out soon.UPDATED 10/10/2012: The new replacement TV arrived on 10/4 as scheduled and the display was perfect. After spending more time with the TV, we love it even more. I have tested the built in speakers and to those who do not know about these thin TV's; do not expect full sound. Even after tweaking all the settings, the sound is weak and metallic. Most will be using processors or external speakers; so even though this is not deal breaker for such a great TV...plan on supplementing the sound to be in line with the great picture. One other annoyance is getting out of Netflix or Amazon video back to...cable for instance. The Input button on the remote give an error when it is pressed and will not return to HDMI or Components inputs.

5Sony XBR55HX950 55-inch 240HZ 1080p 3D Internet
By AZ-Bob
Got mine yesterday, quick initial review... Phenomenal!! Did very little tweaking on setup as of yet, but let me tell you such a superb picture we were blown away. It bought our high definition viewing experience to a new level. Easy network setup. Amazon delivery was excellent, brought inside, and tested before leaving. We have not tried the 3D yet.I will update my review after playing with it over the weekend. But so far, extremely satisfied.Update 10/9/12:After a couple of weeks with the TV, we just love it. Yes, the 3D is excellent. We had not really expected to like or use 3D at home, but we have found it much better than going to a theater. I highly recommend this unit. The online content is easy to get to, with several sources to choose from, amazon prime, Netflix, sony entertainment, etc. I am running wireless N, via a cable modem, and have had only one bad day of streaming. (due to the cable company). The picture in general is the best we have ever seen, my wife (who normally is eh, a new TV), is quite impressed with this TV, ... buy and enjoy. BobGlasses almost forgot glasses, after researching we setteled on the "PlayStation 3 3D Glasses" and I also hightly recommend them, as made for gaming, more forgiving if laying down, and or moving your head. :)(they also fit nicely over my normal eyeglasses), usb rechargable (quick), and fairly long lasting battery life, have not went dead on me yet.

1Element ELGFW551 Worst TV / Company
By RGEO
My 55" ELFGW551, when setup, had obvious jagged scars across the top & bottom of the screen. I immediately called Element; they said "you need a new main board; we will ship it to you, & when it arrives we will have a technician install it for you, all @ no cost." That was 6 months ago, NO exaggeration. Since then: "Oh, the part is coming from China; may take another month or two, or three, or four." Now: "We have a deal for you." Now, I don't care what the deal is, I will never purchase an item from Element in my lifetime. And I don't want their main board; I'm tossing the TV in the town dump.

1terrible
By dustijb
I have had my element 46" TV for almost a year now and it has been great, or should I say WAS great. The HDMI ports quit working and because it is under warranty I called customer service. They informed me that because it is under warranty that they would take care of the problem. I faxed a copy of my original receipt and they said they would get a technician to come to my house within 3 days. I was so pleased that the company was going to do the right thing and that it was so simple for me to get it taken care of. Of course it was all too good to be true. 2 weeks go by and I receive a phone call that they are having trouble finding a technician in my area . . . and they want to give me a "deal". I pay 45$ for the TV I already paid full price for, pack up this 46" giant thing, go without a TV for a few weeks and they will send me a refurbished one! How great. I pay more, go without, and get some old broken one that someone else had a problem with. What a deal. I paid full price for my new working TV. I understand that the warranty says that I must pay one way shipping for replacement; however the company is full of empty promises saying that they would fix it. Because of its size they said I qualified for someone to come to my house. How is it my fault that they cannot find someone? Maybe they shouldn't go around promising things they cannot deliver. Now I am stuck making up the difference? Because my product stopped working in less than a year? I will never buy another element product EVER again. I will also be sure to tell everyone I know.

1Spend more save later....
By B. Howard
When i say spend more and save later i mean spend more for a better TV and save later by not having to spend to ship this thing back within the first year of having it. I had the TV for about 8 months when the power supply died on it, i called to see about getting it replace and the tech said i will have to ship it back for them to fix it. Its in the warranty so i was like no prob. Cost me about 70$ to ship it back and it took almost 2 months before i got the TV back. When it did come back it was some refurbish one and the sound was way lower than the one i actually bought (previous one had great sound quailty this one the volume is max at 15). The hdmi ports slowly started to die right at my 1 year was up and now i'm saving up for another TV. It sux having a HD tv and not able to play video games through hdmi. Never will i buy an element TV again.

4Price and Features Make It a Good Buy - 4.5 Stars out of 5
By Cautious Consumer
Had the TV for 2 weeks, so far I am pleased. I'll begin with the TV's picture - it is excellent, colors, detail, etc...are excellent. The 3D is excellent. The 2D to 3D conversion is excellent. This plasma does have the "Soap Opera Effect" - which you can remedy by changing the picture setting to "Game Mode". I have the TV in Game Mode 24/7 and have no problems with that at all. That's where I deduct half a star - literally my only complaint. For me, this effect is extremely annoying, and I don't understand how manufacturers seem to think this is OK to ship out TVs with this strange motion effect. If you don't mind or even like this effect - this TV is even more highly recommended by me (5 out of 5 easily). The TV comes with a full internet browser which "out of the box" is controlled by the TV's remote. You can imagine that requires a little patience, but if you find a "plug 'n play" wireless keyboard - problem solved. The Internet works excellent. The TV streams Netflix movies no problem at all.The TV's form factor should also be considered a big plus. It is thin, all connections are well-thought out and located conveniently.Considering the features you get: 3D; 2D to 3D conversion (literally watch anything you want in 3D); the Internet with Netflix, full browser, USB inputs, and great picture quality - this TV is a very good deal."The Good" most certainly outweigh "the bad" in this case and I recommend this TVThe Good:-Picture Quality**-2D to 3D conversion-Full Browser/Internet/Netflix-USB inputs-Form Factor/Thin/Connections nicely locatedThe Bad:-** "Soap Opera Effect" Occurs with this plasma, but you can avoid that by using "Game" mode picture setting.- No 'HBOgo' or 'Pandora' Apps yet, but maybe this will change in the future

5Best TV Ever... (simpson's voice)
By Rabbit
This is one of the best picture quality TV's I have seen. It may SAY 720p, but it rrenders 1080p. Check LG website Model # 42PM4700. TRUST ME. Plasma is GREAT. My father has a 55" LCD Philips. He also had to buy a dongle for it (wireless) Pshh! MY TV came with everything. AND Amazon installed it for free. Why do I say free?? Got this TV for A little over $600. My dads TV was way more than that. I won't tell him (I'll wait till he sees it himself) But my TV blows his out the water. it came with the wifi dongle. has 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB. Plus 2 components, Digital out, computer hook up, bla bla bla. One charges my 3D glasses and the other for wifi. 1 hooks up to my Laptop and will play sound through it. the other is hooked up to my PS3 and the other is not yet used. This TV has SO many features. That's why they call it SMART. The ONLY problem I have with this TV is that it will only pick up 3 DTV channels. Antenna or not. With my DTV box i pick up 10 alone. IDK what the prob is what it doesn't really matter to me. I don't even watch TV. all i do is stream Netflix, play through my Laptop and Ps3. I am SO satisfied. seriously you NEED to buy this TV. Buy the official glasses that go with it. they work flawlessly!!!Ok, 3D? Great!! will make ANYTHING 3D and the depth is good. Especially if the game or show is in 3d (duhh...) Makes my PS3 all worth it. and it has many options for 3D as well.Sound is LOUD. but not buzzing loud. Good quality! not much bass but I have a subwoofer for that ;-)Overall 8.5 AGAIN the TV should say 1080p because it DOES view.

5SO FAR SO GREAT!!
By Forevermercy
Got my TV on Friday and have been messing with it all this weekend.I'm not one of those picture quality snobs, but here's my take. Out of the box the eco energer saver settings are on so its really dim. I changed the settings to "Standard" and am pretty pleased with the picture quality. The movement is a lil bit different. Not bad but different from my old Samsung TV. I think another reviewer called it the "Soap Opera Effect". Whatever it is I'm sure it could be changed but it makes no difference to me. You do notice it more in the 3D setting tho.Speaking of 3D. This is my 1st 3D tv and I bought this one specifically because of the 2D to 3D conversion capability. Maybe I still need to configure the setting to my liking but I would say this the only downfall for this TV. There's alotta ghosting! When watching something in 3D world (which is made for 3D viewing) it was almost unbearable to watch because of the ghosting. Again, maybe I just don't have the settings right. Funny enough, the 2D converted into 3D actually wasn't bad with the ghosting and I enjoyed the enhanced viewing watching shows like "Once Upon a Time" and "Awake" in 3d! But for most shows, converting is not much of an enhancement. Mind you the 3D gets a lil wonky when converting, but that's because its not meant for 3D viewing so you get things like random pop outs and stuff. But that's not the TV's fault. Other than that its a pretty neat feature and I'm impressed that now I can enhance anything I watch (even netflix) in 3D. I suggest watching Inception! But as far as the actual Cinema 3D is concerned the jury is still out since I don't have a Blue Ray yet and what content was available was rrrreally bad! I'll let you know as soon as I can pop in an actual Blue ray 3D DVD.So the "Smart TV" features. This is the other reason I purchased this set and I can say I'm pretty happy with it. The apps like youtube and netflix work as good as on my Android. But I'm hoping they add Pandora soon! I haven't downloaded any extra apps yet but I haven't seen anything I use as often as netflix.I love the idea of being able to access my computer files from the TV since I have a ton of downloaded movies. Here again, I'm not sure if I have the setting right but I wasn't able to just pop into my PC as easy as they make it sound. You have to download Plex Media Server and then add content to a library which takes time depending on how much content you have. So far, the only files I can access from the TV is those I put in that Plex libray. And often I'm not even able to connect at all to my PC. Also you can only playback certain video formats. Its kind of a pain to be honest. But when it works it streams my content just fine! Rewinding and forwarding is a lil rough though.Same from my LG G2X android phone. The smartshare feature was a lil difficult to get running but once you've figured out the correct setting I can instantly play my pictures and music directly on my tv!****UPDATE****I found it is MUCH easier to transfer movies to my kindle fire and play it off the USB! So no connection cut offs when playing a movie. Works great! So all in all so far I'm happy. I bought this TV when it was in the $500 range and think its a great buy! LOTS of great features, nice design, and solid TV viewing. I would definitely recommend!PROS:2D to 3D conversion is pretty awesome!Streaming content from netflix and other apps.Wireless access to my PC and smart phone.Cons:3D isn't the best.Difficult getting settings configured.***UPDATE***So I've been able to view original 3D footage and its LOADS better than the provided footage on the LG 3D World. There's still noticeable ghosting but you'd be hard pressed to find much improvement on other 3D sets.***UPDATE 8 MONTHS LATER***My only real regret with buying this TV is not buying the bigger one!!! My 1 yr old broke one of the 3D glasses which was a huge disappointment. But to be honest I dont really watch too much in 3D anymore. The allure has faded for me, but good thing I did notice about the TV/Glasses as compared to similar 3D sets is you dont have to be sitting straight up to watch 3D. You can watch TV in any position your heart desires and it doesn't hinder the 3D viewing. Also I recommend buying a high capacity USB flash drive (like 64 gigs). You can find them for around $30 and they fit around 20-30 movies! I pop the USB drive in the 2nd input and I have a library of movies to watch at a click. LOVE this TV!

5This is not the Syntax Olevia 232V LCD HDTV
By johnb|aze
First, I must say that I own the Syntax Olevia 232v and the unit that will be shipped from DiscountJungle IS NOT a 232v. The 232v is easily identified by the two vertical speakers on either side of the screen hence the 232"v" model number. I'm not sure what model this is in the picture but I'd be highly upset if I paid for a 232v and received this instead. With that said, if you are on the fence about purchasing the Olevia 232v you can carefully and calmly step down and run and grab it as you will not be disappointed in any way. When I first saw the specs and read the reviews I was like yeah right but finally decided to give it a try after speaking with the Circuit City store manager who said I could simply return it if I didn't like. The colors are very true and bright for an LCD. The blacks and whites are vivid and rival anything by Sony within $1000. The screen is very bright which is manaually adjustable or adjustable via 3 different presets (dark, medium, bright) depending on the lighting in the room.Even though Olevias american website doesn't mention it this unit DOES have Clear QAM and the network HD stations are amazing once you get your antenna connected and adjusted. By the way, Olevia's asian website does properly list clear QAM in the 232v specifications. I got about 10 HD channels immediately and there looks like there are about 5 or so that my antenna can't reach. The sound is decent but I bought a Denon HTIB to handle the audio. Altogether with my PS3, Denon HTIB w/DVD player, and PS3 this is a very nice setup. BTW, Resistance "Fall of Man" in 1080i is simply stunning![...]

5Olevia 232V - 32" LCD TV - AWESOME!!!
By YhwhKhai
First I would like to say that I totally back up the first reviewer as far as the make and model of this TV is concerned. It is not the crappy version that you see here on Amazon. I also would not have purchased this one for the price. The version that they have looks like an oversized regular model TV. Nothing I would spend more than $200.00 for. The 232V model I have has two speakers - one on each side. Now let's get to my personal review.I purchased this TV about two or so weeks ago and I'm extremely pleased. Even though this unit does not carry the so-called brand name, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS SILENT KILLER! The colors & picture are absolutely stunning. My DVD player comes through with great clarity. WOW! No problems with the volume. I use this with the minimum volume settings and it still appears loud (without the home theater system on). I wanted to test the volume by increasing it, only to hurt my eardrums halfway through. The speakers work great. I also have a SONY Theater System attached to this baby so you know I'm riding high in the clouds. My son is jealous and now he wants this TV. I paid about $550.00 at Circuit City when they were running a sale. You can't go wrong. This TV could hang up there with the other 32" costing hundreds more.I bet if you put this TV side by side with the other models costing more, you would probably see no difference. I read the reviews on Circuit City's website before I made my final decision and I couldn't be more pleased. This TV has plenty of hookups in the back of the unit for various devices. There's no shortage here. At the moment, I have two DVD players attached (DVD & Recorder), theater system, and I'm in the process of getting my Direct TV attached next.I have this unit attached to a swivel wall mount. I was going to write a review about the wall mount, but I do not see it listed on Amazon. The wall mount that they have only has four screws that you would use to attach the unit to the TV mount, mine has six. Since I was going to attach a tv that weighs about 40 pounds, why not get a device that can hold it more firmly. Maybe it's my paronoia, but who wants to come home one day to find their $500.00 unit on the floor in pieces? Be aware, not all wall mounts work with all flat panels. They say universal, but some people have been caught out there big time!!!!!!(As of 6/9/08, it looks like Amazon has the correct pic of this tv.)

5An Excellent Way to Get Into High Definition Viewing
By S. Bernstein
I picked this TV up in April 2007 and viewed it in 480p ("enhanced definition") by upconverting my DirecTV signal through my Panasonic DMR ES-10 DVD recorder. Viewed straight on, the picture was pleasing and sharp, and the colors vivid. From an angle, the picture became fuzzy but I was impressed enough to keep the TV and make the leap into the world of flat screen TV.Two days ago, I had DirecTV's high def DVR installed and connected it to the TV with spectacular results. The colors and clarity on Miami CSI blew me away, and when watching baseball you can see every drop of sweat, every pore, and even the faces in the crowd are distinct. With the new high def receiver/DVR (which receives local digital and standard definition broadcasts as well), all signals look great, even standard def, from ALL viewing angles. That's key, because the quantity of high def programming is still somewhat limited to selected sports, local news and many prime time shows and movies. In fact, the standard def and digital broadcasts look far better than on my brother's high def SONY flat screen and the high def looks just as good. For an apartment, bedroom or office, this TV simply can't be beat at this price. My only reservations are the average sound (which can be output to a powered 2.1/5.1 system if you need to add bass) and limited inputs (1 HDMI, 1 component, 1 component/VGA). I have my laptop hooked into the VGA input, and its great to see my digital photos leap to life on the 32" screen. I also recommend that you take the time to learn how to manipulate the aspect ratios on the TV as well as the use of formatting/native/non-native resolution settings that are part of your cable or satellite receiver. Making slight adjustments will ensure the best possible picture, but if you're not into such tinkering the "out of the box" picture is excellent in its own right. The on-screen menus do take some getting used to, but if you are basically comfortable with technology and video equipment, you'll pick it up fast enough. Overall, an amazing value and a great entry point TV for any high-res TV fan. At this price, it makes a lot of sense to go for it!

Panasonic TC-P60U50 60-Inch 600Hz Plasma HDTV

Product Description

The U50 is the lone non-3D in Panasonic's 2012 HDTV Plasma model line-up. The model features 1080p Full HD resolution, fast-switching phosphors, media player, and 600Hz sub-field drive.

Operate Multiple Systems with Just One Remote Control through VIERA Link

The U50 features VIERA Link, a technology that allows a consumer to operate all VIERA Link compatible AV components using only the TV’S remote control. In addition to operating a VIERA HDTV, video source, and home theater receiver can be connected to a VIERA HDTV and controlled via VIERA Link remote. Users can then watch their child, pet and/or property by installing the camera and networking to the VIERA HDTV via Ethernet cable.

A Large Screen Full HD All-Round Performer: A Suite of Technologies

600Hz Sub-field DrivePanasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data; and each framd is virtually displayed in a shorter length of time, to create crisp images.Game Mode Games are much more fun when there's no lag in operation. Select "Game Mode" under the picture mode option and VIERA automatically chooses settings that provide the optimal image, so you get super-fast response and no delays. Even dark scenes with delicately rendered details are beautiful and easy to see.Media Player Simply insert an SD Memory Card or USB memory stick into the slot to enjoy previously saved photos, video clips and music on VIERA's large screen. You can also add frames and other effects to your photos and videos, and create slide shows complete with background music. A wide variety of formats are supported, so you can listen to PC-based music files and web movies right on your TV.

Skype Communication

An optional Skype Communication camera (TY-CC20W) allows the consumer to communicate with friends and family via a large TV, rather than on a small computer or smart phone screen.  Record an original message and set it as your answering voice message. Callers can record messages onto the SD Memory Card*, while you are away. *Minimum 512MB required

Environmentally Friendly

Panasonic’s commitment to sustainability and producing products that are ecologically sound is evidenced in the 100,000 hour life span of the Plasma Display panel and the lack of lead or mercury in the panels. Thanks to a newly designed phosphor process and rear panel process, Panasonic's plasma panels last for up to 100,000 hours before the brightness decreases by half. That's more than 30 years of viewing 8 hours a day. Plus with Eco Mode, Panasonic TV's turn off and adjust brightness depending on the VIERA's operating status. Settings can be configured by selecting Eco mode from VIERA Tools. The Power Save setting also adjusts screen brightness to reduce power consumption.

5Best TV I tried
By Thigpen
This is the best TV I tried out over the last 30 days. I wanted to stay around $800 which is fairly easy these days if you dont need a smart/3D TV. I have Google TV and love it.I took advantage of Best Buy's 30 day return policy with no questions asked.I went into the store and every geek squad guy said that Panasonic Plasma is the way to go.I went against their recommendation due to brand loyalty and got the 50" LG Plasma Model 50PA5500. This TV was fine, but the white levels just couldnt hit the mark(seemed dirty) without compromising the blacks.I then returned it and wanted to try a LED TV. I bought the Samsung 46" LED Model UN46EH6000FXZA. At first glance the LED was great (esp when there wasnt fast movement), then the picture started to annoy me. I went through multiple picture adjustments and could not get rid of the tracers, and the picture seemed a little jerky. Im sure a LED with a higher refresh rate wouldve be a lot better, but Im not paying for it.After those 2 a came back and got this Panasonic, and couldnt be happier. After testing the market I realized I initially over reacted to the reflection of the Plasma glass screen(mainly because I was aware of it being an issue so I would stare at the reflection at every dark scene). This TV did not require hardly any advanced settings tweaking like the hours I spent on the other 2 models. I have 2 settings I currently like; one for sports and one for movies. Eventually Ill get it to one picture. This TV has very good whites, very good blacks, and the onscreen movements are extremely fluid. My wife was enamored with the brightness of the LED, but we found a good meeting point. The life-like crisp picture definitely makes up for that.I could care less if this TV uses $3 more a month in energy over the LED. Im not worried about missing the passing fad of 3D and its early technology, or if the TV is "smart". Im also not worried about this TV lasting 20 years, even though they say it will.I highly recommend this TV.

52012 model Excellent Picture and Great Sound
By appoloosa
Sorry Amazon, I didn't buy it online, picked it up locally at Sam's Club for less, but hopefully what I have to say will convince more people to buy this model the Panasonic P50U50. It's the newest Plasma technology, my build was April 2012, it used Panasonic's Brand new Nano Plasma screen which is absolutely amazing, it runs cool uses 100 watts, the Nano Screens are rated for 100,000 hours and has none of the problems of the older Plasma screens and when you compare this to an LCD or LED it's striking the difference, even the cats are amazed they keep trying to touch things on the screen. Have to wipe their paw prints off my new TV...lol never had that problem with my old DPL TV it replaced. This TV does NOT have WIFI or 3D built in, however almost all of the new Blue-ray players have all of that built in and if you want the Internet go with a Ruko or Google TV box for less that $100.00 you will have more Internet applications than you know what to do with and the ability to search the Internet unlike the proprietary apps built into the expensive TVs which are very limited. Now let me tell you about the features Panasonic forgot to mention that this TV has ....guess they are trying to play down the less expensive TVs, it does have Picture Presets and Color Presets and a lot of Audio adjustments including Surround Sound which I'm using, gives a wider sound effect, now it's not going to shake your glass in your windows, but we found it to quite good, it has plenty of HDMI and component hookups and a Panasonic exclusive the SD card reader, we like that feature, it has a Light Sensor and Volume Leveler too, keeping those commercials from blasting you out. Overall a very nice THIN about 2" thick TV and well worth the $748.00 we paid for it at Sam's Club which BTW you must pick-up in store, so unless you have a big vehical, I'd recommend having shipped free from a reputable online seller like Amazon. PS get ready to share it with your cats.

5Amazing Set at an Amazing Price
By James J
I was skeptical of this set at first, when viewed in-store at Best Buy and Walmart it seemed dull and dim compared to the much brighter LCD's on display. Those employees, like a couple reviewers here, just have no idea how to properly set it up. Crank up the brightness and contrast, this is the most amazing picture quality I've seen in my home(make the employees set it to "vivid" for a quick way to compare). Gamers swear by Panasonic Plasmas, and this model is no exception. The deep blacks add layers of color I never saw on my previous TV and the lack of LCD lag make all my games feel so much more responsive. 3D is a fad and "smart" features can be added just by hooking up a PC, or are delivered by the PS3 or 360 already. Skip those unneeded costs to grab this giant plasma for a great value.
